All right, we’re rounding out the week with a couple things here at The Bits.

First up, Tim has posed two new Blu-ray reviews featuring John Carpenter’s Big Trouble in Little China, now available on Blu-ray from Scream Factory. Tim covers both the regular version and the limited edition Steelbook as well, so do give them a look. Whichever version you pick, it’s a great Collector’s Edition.

Also, we posted a new History, Legacy, and Showmanship column from our own Michael Coate late yesterday, featuring a look back at John Hughes’ National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation with film historian Thomas A. Christie.

It’s a great piece, with much for fans of the film to enjoy, so you’ll find that here. [Read on here...]

Back to Shout! and Scream Factory for a moment... there are a number of titles they’ve released on Blu-ray and DVD over the last year or so that will be going out of print at the end of 2019. So while they may still be available for a while from other retailers, they’re likely to sell out quickly and the price is likely to go up. The titles in question include:

Carrie/The Rage: Carrie 2, Blacula/Scream Blacula Scream, Blood and Lace, The Curse/Curse II: The Bite, The Dark Half, Demented, Dolls, The House Where Evil Dwells/Ghost Warrior, The Incredible Melting Man, Invaders From Mars, Lady in White, Lord of Illusions, Millennium/R.O.T.O.R., Monkey Shines, Murders in the Rue Morgue/The Dunwhich Horror, The Nest, New Year’s Evil, Pumpkinhead II, Sonny Boy, Species II, Species III/Species: The Awakening, Squirm, Swamp Thing, and Vampire’s Kiss/High Spirits from Scream Factory, along with Bagdad Cafe (DVD), Breathless, Day of the Outlaw (DVD), Doc (DVD), Easy Money/Men at Work, Escape from Grizzly Mountain (DVD), Hackers, The Hills Run Red/Apache (DVD), The Pope of Greenwich Village/Desperate Hours, Science Fiction Theatre: The Complete Series (DVD), The Sure Thing, and War Films Triple Feature (Attack/Attack on the Iron Coast/Beach Red) from Shout! Factory. So be sure to act soon if you want any of them.

In other news today, CBS Home Entertainment will be releasing The Twilight Zone: Season One on 2/18/2020. Note that this is the new Jordan Peele series.

Kino Lorber Studio Classics has announced more new catalog Blu-rays for release in February, including Peter Hall’s Perfect Friday (1970), Henri-Georges Clouzot’s Quai des Orfèvres (1947 – aka Jenny Lamour), Claude Chabrol’s The Third Lover (1962) and Line of Demarcation (1966), and Claude Sautet’s Max and the Junkmen (1971), all on 2/25.

And here’s a curiosity: Via Vision Entertainment in Australia will be releasing Michael Mann’s The Keep on DVD on 3/4/2020. This is a title that’s been long awaited by cinephiles, yet one that Mann himself is not a fan of. There’s no Blu-ray version planned, though our industry sources tell us that there is at least some hope of one in the future. We’ll certainly post any further news when it’s available.

That’s all for now. Stay tuned...
