We have no less than four new disc reviews for you to enjoy today, and--surprise!--I even managed to finish one for a change...

First, Tim has taken a look at Sidney Lumet’s excellent Murder on the Orient Express (1974) in 4K Ultra HD from Kino Lorber Studio Classics, as well as Hanna-Barbera’s animated Top Cat: The Complete Series (1961-1962) on Blu-ray from the Warner Archive Collection.

Also, Dennis has reviewed another Warner Archive title: Norman Foster’s Journey Into Fear (1943) on Blu-ray.

And finally today, I’ve shared my thoughts on M. Night Shyamalan’s Signs (2003), a tense and effective alien invasion thriller, on 4K Ultra HD from Touchstone Pictures, Disney, and Buena Vista Home Entertainment.

As always, more reviews are forthcoming this week, so be sure to stay tuned for them!

In announcement news this afternoon, there is just not much to report. But we do have a couple things for you...

First, Paramount is reissuing Sergio Leone’s Once Upon a Time in the West (1968) as a 4K Ultra HD and Blu-ray combo on 1/14, simply without the Paramount Presents packaging. It also looks like the studio is doing the same thing with Roman Polanski’s Chinatown (1974) that same day. We assume they’re the same 4K discs as before. (If otherwise, we’ll confirm and post an update here.) You can see the new cover art for the former at left and also below. [Read on here...]

Kino Lorber Studio Classics has added Andrew V. McLaglen’s The Ballad of Josie (1968) and Michael Gordon’s For Love or Money (1963) to its 12/17 Blu-ray slate. They’ve also confirmed that Walter Hill’s Undisputed (2002) is coming soon to 4K Ultra HD and Blu-ray, and that Edward L. Cahn’s Law and Order (1932) is coming soon to Blu-ray only.

BBC Studios is releasing Blake’s 7: The Collection – Series 1 on Blu-ray on 12/10, featuring all 13 episodes newly-restored in HD and lots of new and archival extras.

Universal has set Morgan Neville’s LEGO animated Piece by Piece (2024) for release on Blu-ray and DVD on 12/17, with the Digital version expected tomorrow on 10/29. It features the music of Pharrell Williams.

Meanwhile, AMC is releasing The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon – The Book of Carol on Blu-ray on 12/17. It’ll feature a Pre-Premiere Look at Season 2, Show Me More, Episode Insiders, and The Book of Carol Panel at Comic-Con 2024.

Criterion is releasing Ryusuke Hamaguchi’s Evil Does Not Exist (2023) as a Janus Contemporaries Blu-ray release on 12/17.

Eureka! in the UK has set Kiyoshi Kurosawa’s Cure (2001) for release on 4K Ultra HD and Blu-ray on 1/27/25.

A company called Briarcliff has set Ali Abbasi’s The Apprentice (2024) biopic for release on Blu-ray and DVD on 12/17.

And Concord Records has set Ghost: Rite Here Rite Now (2024) for 4K Ultra HD release on 12/6, featuring parts of a live performance by the band recorded at the Kia Forum in Los Angeles.

Finally today, I had a great time this past weekend joining TV showrunners David Mandel (Veep, Curb Your Enthusiasm, Seinfeld) and Ryan Condal (Colony, Rampage, House of the Dragon) on their excellent The Stuff Dreams Are Made Up podcast to talk physical media, 4K Ultra HD, and prop collecting! The episode should drop next month (sometime around 11/20) and I’ll share the link when it’s available. In the meantime, do check out their YouTube channel and the pod via all your favorite podcast sources.
