In announcement news today, Paramount has just set Hal Ashby’s cult classic Harold and Maude (1971) for release on Blu-ray on 12/7 as part of their Paramount Presents line-up. The film has been beautifully restored and remastered in honor of its 50th anniversary. Extras on the Blu-ray will include a new audio commentary with Larry Karaszewski and Cameron Crowe, the new Yusuf/Cat Stevens on Harold and Maude featurette, and two theatrical trailers for the film. You can see the cover artwork above-left and also below.
Meanwhile, RLJE Films has set Skull: The Mask for release on DVD, Digital and VOD on 10/26.
Here’s a nice surprise: Kino Lorber Studio Classics is releasing Alan Alda’s 1981 comedy drama The Four Seasons on Blu-ray Disc on 12/14. The film stars Alda, Carol Burnett, and Rita Moreno. Thanks to Bits reader Michael D. for the heads-up!
Speaking of KLSC, I’ve updated my review of Jonathan Demme’s The Silence of the Lambs in 4K Ultra HD from Kino Lorber Studio Classics to include new image-quality information reflecting a direct comparison of the KLSC Blu-ray and 4K discs to Criterion’s recent Blu-ray release. So do give that a look if you’re interested.
Also, we’ve learned that Lionsgate’s forthcoming Blu-ray release of L.A. Story will feature a brand-new interview with director Mick Jackson called O2BINLA: Mick Jackson’s L.A. Stories. We’re certainly looking forward to checking that one out.
And finally, we’ve confirmed once more that Lionsgate will be releasing both Akira Kurosawa’s Ran and Highlander (1986) on 4K Ultra HD, but the street dates are still TBA. We’ll update our 4K Ultra HD Release List here at The Bits when we have more detailed information.
That’s all for now. Stay tuned...!
