All right, we’ve got a bunch of news to run down for you all today...

But before we get to that, we wanted to let you know that we’ve just completed major updates of our Release Dates & Cover Artwork section here at The Bits, as well as our 4K Ultra HD Release List, both of which include all the latest Amazon pre-order links. What’s more, we’ve posted some very cool content over the last couple of weeks on our Digital Bits Patreon. And those of you interested in titles that might be coming to 4K UHD in 2025 will definitely want to check those posts out. Becoming a Patreon subscriber is a great way to support the work we do here at The Bits—it’s affordable and we try to make it worth your while. So please consider joining us over there, and we appreciate it! Now then...

The big news today is that Marvel and Disney have just officially set Shawn Levy’s Deadpool & Wolverine (2024) for release on 4K Ultra HD, Blu-ray, and DVD on 10/22, with the Digital release expected on 10/1. The 4K disc will include Dolby Vision HDR and Dolby Atmos audio on a 66GB disc. There will be a wide-release 4K version in Amaray packaging, along with dual limited-edition Steelbooks one of which features Deadpool on the cover with a red interior, and the other featuring Wolverine on the cover with a yellow interior. A Walmart-exclusive Amaray version will also include “pop-up” packaging featuring the Deadpool corp. Regardless of which version you buy, the disc will contain audio commentary with Shawn Levy and actor Ryan Reynolds, a gag reel, 4 featurettes (Finding Madonna: Making the Oner, Practical Approach: Celebrating the Art of Ray Chan, Loose Ends: The Legacy of Heroes, and Wolverine), 3 deleted scenes (Elevator Ride, Do Nothing, and Daddy’s in Love), and “Fun Sack” (Dr. Deadpool, Product Review, and Wade is Back). You can see the cover artwork at left and also below. [Read on here...]

Also, Lionsgate has announced the Blu-ray, DVD, and 4K Ultra HD release of Eli Roth’s Borderlands (2024) on 10/22, with the Digital release expected on 10/8. Look for Dolby Vision HDR and Dolby Atmos on the 4K. Amazon and Walmart will each have exclusive Steelbook packaging. Extras will include 7 featurettes (Borderland: From Game to Screen, Meet the Team, All Aboard the Death Choochoo, Bringing Borderlands to the Screen, Badonkadonk Time, Fashion and Action on Pandora, and High Tech Hellscapes). You can see the cover artwork below.

Sony Pictures Home Entertainment has set Justin Baldoni’s It Ends with Us (2024) for Blu-ray, DVD, and Digital release on 11/5. Sony has also set Carlos Saldanha’s Harold and the Purple Crayon (2024) for release on Blu-ray, DVD, and Digital on 10/10.

Universal has announced that Edgar Wright’s Shaun of the Dead will be reissued in 4K and 4K Steelbook on 12/3 in honor of the film’s 20th anniversary. Note that this release features a brand-new 4K remaster with Dolby Vision HDR and Dolby Atmos audio. There’s also a new retrospective featurette, Shaun of the Dead: 20 Bloody Years! along with all of the previous legacy bonus content. A 4K Steelbook version will also be available.

It looks like Warner Bros. is cooking up a couple of 4K surprises for December. They’re releasing Peter Jackson’s The Lord of the Rings Trilogy: Theatrical & Extended Edition in a new “One Ring” 4K Gift Box on 12/20. And Joel Schumacher’s The Lost Boys (1987) is coming in a new 4K Steelbook edition on 12/6.

Kino Lorber Studio Classics has just revealed that William Friedkin’s Bug (2006)—a title that they had announced previously but cancelled—is finally coming to both Blu-ray and 4K Ultra HD on 11/26. Also coming that day to 4K Ultra HD is David Twohy’s Below (2002). Friedkin’s The Hunted (2003) is also coming to 4K on 11/19. And KLSC has just revealed that Dennis Dugan’s Happy Gilmore (1996) is coming soon to 4K, while Steven Lisberger’s Hot Pursuit (1987) is coming soon to Blu-ray.

We also have three new MVD Blu-ray titles to mention for release on 12/10: Jeff Werner’s Cheerleaders Wild Weekend (1979) and Perry Lang’s Men of War (1994) are both being released that day as MVD Rewind Collection titles, while Walter R. Cichy’s Copkillers (1973) will street that day as an MVD Classics release.

And to recap our exclusive announcements from earlier this week: We start with Warner’s announcement yesterday here on The Bits of director Robert Harmon’s The Hitcher (1986), coming to Blu-ray and 4K Ultra HD here in the States on 10/22, each utilizing Second Sight’s new remaster. (Second Sight’s UK release officially drops on 9/30.) The 4K will include Dolby Vision HDR and Dolby Atmos audio.

On Monday, we told you about Refuse Films’ new Blu-ray release of Trey Parker’s Cannibal! The Musical (1993) which is due on 12/1 and which will be loaded with extras. Also coming that day are two additional TromArchive Blu-rays of The Toxic Avenger (1984) and Sgt. Kabukiman NYPD (1990). Note that Refuse Films is a UK label, but their discs will be all region.

Well, little did we know, our friends at Vinegar Syndrome and Degausser Video are also releasing their own version of Cannibal! The Musical on Blu-ray (and limited VHS!) on this side of the Pond! Pre-orders go live on 11/1 as part of their Black Friday Pre-Order. Per VS, “In addition to featuring an exclusive-to-Degausser new restoration from the highest-quality video master, we’ve prepared a brand new, feature-length making-of documentary (including appearances from several never-before-interviewed crew members), a new featurette covering the stage adaptation of the film, and new group commentary with cast and crew. This is on top of hours of amazing archival extras. Our edition will be housed in a VS-styled hard case with original artwork by Brianna Miller and a 40-page perfect bound ‘scrapbook’ featuring incredible behind-the-scenes photos and ephemera from producer Jason McHugh’s personal collection!”

We shared Refuse’s cover art on Monday, but you can see the VS/Degausser artwork below. We wouldn’t be surprised if super-fans buy both editions to get the unique extras on each.

Finally today, I wanted to offer my congratulations to my friends Robert Meyer Burnett and Mike Bawden for the completion of their successful Kickstarter for their forthcoming immersive audio drama, True Noir: The Assassination of Anton Cermak! The 10-part drama was adapted by author Max Allan Collins based on his own novels, and it features a terrific cast of voice actors that includes Michael Rosenbaum, David Strathairn, Adam Arkin, Curtis Armstrong, Barry Bostwick, P.J. Byrne, Corey Landis, Kris Carr, Jeffrey Combs, Devin Conrad, Rob Roy Fitzgerald, Saverio Guerra, C. Thomas Howell, Anthony LaPaglia, Louis Lombardi, Don McManus, Bill Mumy, Vincent Pastore, Katee Sackhoff, Bill Sadler, Bill Smitrovich, Jesse Spencer, and Renée Taylor! What makes this even more cool is that when the project is done, you’ll be able to purchase it on Blu-ray Audio format with an immersive Dolby Atmos mix! And since they met their fundraising goals, you can still back the project to get a copy of the Blu-ray and more. You’ll find all the details here.

All right, here’s a look at the cover artwork for Deadpool & Wolverine, Shaun of the Dead, and Vinegar Syndrome and Degausser Video’s Cannibal! The Musical! with pre-order links if available...
