Let’s start today with Sony Pictures Home Entertainment, which has just officially set The Dark Tower for release on Blu-ray, DVD, and 4K Ultra HD on 10/31, with the Digital HD release due on 10/17. Extras on the Blu-ray versions will include deleted scenes, a blooper reel, A Look Through the Keyhole, and 5 behind-the-scenes featurettes (including Last Time Around, The World Has Moved On…, The Man in Black, The Gunslinger in Action, and Stephen King Inspirations). We’ve updated our new 4K Ultra HD Release List here at The Bits accordingly.

Note that Sony will also release Preacher: Season Two on Blu-ray and DVD on 11/14. [Read on here…]

Speaking of The 4K Ultra HD Release List, we’ve just added a tentative time frame for Gladiator in 4K from Paramount. Sources tell us to look for it early next year, possibly in March. We also expect the rest of the Transformers films to be announced for release on the format as soon as November.

Meanwhile, the Criterion Collection has revealed its December Blu-ray and DVD slate, which will include Alexander Payne’s Election (Cat #904 – Blu-ray and DVD), an upgrade of Barbet Schroeder’s General Idi Amin Dada: A Self-Portrait (Cat #153 – Blu-ray and DVD), and upgrades of D. A. Pennebaker’s Monterey Pop (Cat #168 – Blu-ray and DVD) and The Complete Monterey Pop Festival (Cat #167 – Blu-ray only) all on 12/12. The latter two are mastered from new 4K digital restorations. We’ve updated The Criterion Spines Project to include the new titles.

While we’re talking December, Twilight Time has just revealed its Blu-ray slate for the month, which is set to include Wuthering Heights (1970), The Hospital (1971), Alice (1990), Forever Amber (1947), and The L-Shaped Room (1962) all on 12/19.

Lionsgate has set the sci-fi film Rememory for Blu-ray, DVD, and Digital release on 11/28, starring Peter Dinklage.

The Warner Archive has also just announced a great new slate of TV and classic catalog Blu-ray titles coming in October, starting with the double feature BD surprise of Superman: The Movie – Extended Cut (1978) and Superman: The Movie – Special Edition (2000). The Extended Cut is a new 1080p HD master of the 188-minute TV version of the film, which has been unseen for decades. It will feature DTS-HD Master Audio 2.0. The Special Edition will carry over all previous Blu-ray extras. Also coming to Blu-ray are The Green Slime (1968), Night School (1981), Scarecrow (1973), The Sea Wolf (1941), The Hidden (1987), iZombie: The Complete Third Season (2017), and The Leftovers: The Third and Final Season (2017). And new to DVD is People of Earth: The Complete First Season. Not bad at all! You can see some of the cover artwork below.

Meanwhile, Kino Lorber has announced that it’s working on a new Blu-ray edition of Cadillac Man (1990).

And Blue Underground will release Bob Clark’s Deathdream (aka Dead of Night) on Blu-ray on 11/28 packed with extras, including two audio commentaries, 3 new featurettes, and vintage material as well.

Here’s a look at more new cover artwork including some of the titles listed above (click on the covers to pre-order the titles on Amazon, if available – we’ll add them as soon as they go live)...
