Spider-Man & Amazing Spidey in 4K, War for the Planet of the Apes 4K & South Park: Seasons 1-11 coming to Blu-ray!

Afternoon, folks. First things first, if any of you are in Florida today, please stay safe! BIG-ass hurricane coming your way, as you’re no doubt aware.

Second, we’ve got a bunch of new disc reviews for you today, including my in-depth thoughts on Steven Spielberg’s E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial: 35th Anniversary Edition in 4K Ultra HD. If you’re a fan of E.T., it’s worth the upgrade. The film has simply never looked better than it does here.

Tim also has three new Blu-ray reviews for you, including his thoughts on Marvel and Netflix’s Daredevil: The Complete First Season, Daredevil: The Complete Second Season, and Jessica Jones: The Complete First Season. Now then... we’ve got a BUNCH of new announcements to catch up on today, so let’s get to it...

Sony Pictures Home Entertainment has just announced the 4K Ultra HD release of the Spider-Man Limited Collection and The Amazing Spider-Man Limited Collection on 10/17. The former will be a 7-disc set that includes Spider-Man, Spider-Man 2, and Spider-Man 3, all in 4K Ultra HD format, plus over 30 hours of extras on Blu-ray (see our review of the Blu-ray set here), including the Spider-Man 3: Editor’s Cut, Spider-Man 2.1, The Stan Lee Legacy: From Comic Book to Homecoming and more. The latter will be a 5-disc set that includes The Amazing Spider-Man and The Amazing Spider-Man 2 in 4K, plus nearly 10 hours of additional features including 15 rare archival featurette and The Stan Lee Legacy: From Comic Book to Homecoming. Both come packaged in a Digibook. We’ll add additional specs and cover artwork as soon as it comes in. Here’s what they look like (We’ll add the Amazon pre-order links as soon as they come online)…

As reported the other day, Fox has set War for the Planet of the Apes for Blu-ray, Blu-ray 3D, DVD, and 4K Ultra HD release on 10/24, with the Digital versions due on 10/10. Extras on the Blu-ray versions will include audio commentary by director Matt Reeves, a concept art gallery, 10 deleted scenes with optional director commentary, the Waging War for the Planet of the Apes documentary, and 5 behind-the-scenes featurettes (All About Caesar, WETA: Pushing Boundaries, Music for Apes, Apes: The Meaning of it All, and The Apes Saga: An Homage).

For you animated TV fans, here’s a shocker: Paramount and Comedy Central are debuting the first eleven seasons of South Park on Blu-ray for the first time ever in time for the holidays! Seasons 1-5 will arrive in stores on 11/21, and Seasons 6-11 will follow on 12/19! And Season One will include “uncensored episode commentary by series creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone, which was not available on the previously released DVD.” So... damn! We will post all of the cover artwork here at The Bits as soon as the Amazon pre-orders go live.

Shout! Factory and IFC Midnight have announced the Blu-ray/DVD Combo release of The Survivalist on 10/3, including a “making of” featurette, several short films, and the theatrical trailer. Shout also has Dudes coming on Blu-ray/DVD Combo on 10/10, featuring a number of interview featurettes with the cast and crew.

Meanwhile, Scream Factory has just announced their Silent Night, Deadly Night: Collector’s Edition for release on 12/5. It’s set to include both the unrated and original theatrical versions of the film, new audio commentary with actor Robert Brian Wilson and co-executive producer Scott J. Schneid, 3 new featurettes (Slay Bells Ring: The Story of Silent Night, Deadly Night, Oh Deer!, and Christmas in July: Silent Night, Deadly Night Locations), plus legacy content that includes audio commentary by Michael Hickey, Perry Boykin, Scott J. Schneid and Michael Spence, Santa’s Stocking of Outrage, a poster and still gallery, TV spots, a radio spot, and the theatrical trailer.

Kino Lorber has announced its October BD and DVD slate, as follows: A Woman’s Life (Kino Lorber – BD & DVD), Kill and Kill Again (Scorpion Releasing – BD), Human (Kino Lorber – BD and DVD), and Harold & Lillian (Zeitgeist – BD & DVD) on 10/3, Kill Baby Kill (Kino Classics – BD & DVD), Roy Colt and Winchester Jack (Kino Classics- BD & DVD), Deadly Hero (Code Red – DVD), Maniac! (Code Red – BD & DVD), and Go Santa Go! (Kino Lorber – DVD) on 10/10, La Chinoise (Kino Classics – BD & DVD), Le gai savoir (Kino Classics – BD & DVD), Titanic (Kino Classics – BD & DVD), Revenge of the Dead (Code Red – DVD), The Terror Within II (Code Red – DVD), and Apple Tree Yard (Kino Lorber – DVD) on 10/17, Everybody Knows... Elizabeth Murray (Kino Lorber – DVD), Rumble: The Indians Who Rocked the World (Kino Lorber – DVD), and They Call Me Bruce? (Code Red – BD & DVD) on 10/24, and The Salamander (Scorpion – BD & DVD), Hermia & Helena (Kino Lorber – BD & DVD), and Dawson City: Frozen Time (Kino Lorber- BD & DVD) on 10/31.

Lionsgate has set Hamilton: Building America for DVD release on 11/14. The company has also set Unlocked for release on Blu-ray and Digital on 11/19.

Eureka Video in the UK has announced a new Metropolis: 90th Anniversary Edition Blu-ray due on 9/25. Limited to 2K units SRP £25.00), the 3-disc set will include the 150-minute reconstructed version, Giorgio Moroder’s Metropolis, and the 2001 restoration, plus 3 documentary featurettes (Metropolis Refound, The Fading Image, and Die Reise nach Metropolis), audio commentaries, the 2010 re-release trailer, a 100-page book and more.

Also in the U.K., Powerhouse Films and Indicator are releasing The Wonderful World of Ray Harryhausen, Volume Two: 1961-1964 on Blu-ray on 11/13 (SRP £42.99) set to include Mysterious Island (1961), Jason and the Argonauts (1963), and First Men in the Moon (1964) with tons of extras and another 80-page book. Like their Sinbad Trilogy and Volume One sets, it’s Region Free. You can pre-order all three here from

Also today, Film Movement is releasing new HD restorations of Joe Sarno’s All the Sins of Sodom and Vibrations together on Blu-ray on 9/26 (SRP $39.95). The company has also bringing The Paris Opera to theaters in October and November and will release it on home video at a later date TBA.

PBS Distribution just released Richard M. Sherman: Songs of a Lifetime on DVD on 9/5. They also have Big Pacific coming to Blu-ray and DVD on 9/26.

And for music fans, Universal 1440 Entertainment is releasing Mariah Carey: All I Want for Christmas Is You on Blu-ray and DVD on 11/14.
