Universal bows more Alfred Hitchcock titles on 4K Ultra HD on 10/31, plus Paramount Scares details & Miyazaki’s The Boy and the Heron!

The Alfred Hitchcock Classics Collection: Volume 3 (4K Ultra HD)

We’ve got one more quick update for you today here at The Bits. But first, we have two new disc reviews from Stephen...

He’s taken a look at Thom Eberhardt’s Night of the Comet (1984) in 4K Ultra HD from Shout and Scream Factory. And he’s also reviewed Scott Walker’s The Tank (2023) on Blu-ray from Well Go USA Entertainment.

Now then, the quick bit of news we have to report today is a follow up on something we predicted was coming here at The Bits several months back, which is that Universal Studios Home Entertainment is officially releasing the next wave of Alfred Hitchcock 4K Ultra HD titles on 10/31!

You’ll get the next box set of five films—The Alfred Hitchcock Classics Collection: Volume 3—as well as 4K single-film SKUs of each of the films in the set, including Rope (1948), The Man Who Knew Too Much (1956), Torn Curtain (1966), Topaz (1969), and Frenzy (1972). Also today, we have additional details on Paramount’s new Paramount Scares: Volume 1 4K UHD box set, which is due on 10/24. Rosemary’s Baby (1968) will include the following extras on a bonus Blu-ray: Rosemary’s Baby: A Retrospective, Mia and Roman, the theatrical trailer, and the 50th Anniversary “Redband” trailer.

Pet Sematary (1989) will include (on a bonus Blu-ray): Audio Commentary by director Mary Lambert, Pet Sematary: Fear and Remembrance, Pet Sematary: Revisitation, Stephen King Territory, The Characters, Filming the Horror, and Galleries (Storyboards Introduction by Mary Lambert, Storyboards, Behind the Scenes, and Marketing).

Smile (2022) will include the following on the actual 4K disc: Audio Commentary by director Parker Finn, Something’s Wrong with Rose: Making Smile, Flies on the Wall: Inside the Score, Deleted Scenes with Optional Commentary by director Parker Finn, and Laura Hasn’t Slept: Original Short with Introduction by director Parker Finn.

Crawl (2019) will include the following on the actual 4K disc: Intro to Alternate Opening, Alternate Opening, Deleted and Extended Scenes, Beneath Crawl, Category 5 Gators: The VFX of Crawl, and Alligator Attacks.

And finally, that mystery title remains a mystery and it appears that’s the plan until you actually open the box. What we do know is that it’s a “fan-favorite title making its 4K Ultra HD debut with the release of this collection.” The box also includes an exclusive issue of Fangoria magazine, an enamel pin, unique stickers, and Digital copies of each film.

Finally today, we’ve learned that GKids will officially release Hayao Miyazaki’s The Boy and the Heron into theaters in theaters and IMAX on 12/8, with a physical media release expected to follow in early 2024. Here’s a look at the “pre-teaser” trailer…
