Today is obviously a holiday here in the States, so there’s very little news to report.

We do, however, have a trio of new Blu-ray reviews for you to enjoy...

Tim’s taken a look at the To Hell and Back: The Kane Hodder Story documentary from Dread Central Presents.

David has given due consideration to the epic 2017 Russian historical actioner Furious from Well Go USA.

And Dennis has checked out Stephen Brio’s horror film Song of Solomon from Unearthed Films.

Do give them a look, if you’re interested.

The only bit of home video news we have today is that Media Blaster’s Zatoichi: Darkness Is His Ally (aka Zatoichi 1989) Blu-ray finally seems to be shipping from Amazon. I expect to have it in hand in the next couple of days, so I’ll let you know if it’s actually a real thing and what the quality is like in a full review soon. [Read on here...]

On another note, my wife and I binged all 8 episodes of Amazon’s new Prime-exclusive dramatic series Jack Ryan on Friday, and I’ll be damned if it isn’t pretty great. It’s well cast across the board, and John Krasinski makes an unexpectedly good Ryan. The producers (including Carlton Cuse from Lost and Graham Roland of Almost Human) know what they’re doing and they understand the character well – they haven’t tried to make him into James Bond or Jason Bourne, which is exactly right. The show takes no shortcuts. I like it a lot. It’s already been picked up for a second season which is now filming. I highly recommend it.

Finally today, on a personal note, I’d like to make one last pitch for my old high school friend Scott DeMers’ outstanding and epic new civilization building board game Hellenica: Story of Greece. It’s being developed in collaboration with the good folks at Mr. B Games. There are only 4 days left in his Kickstarter, but the project was fully funded in just 3 hours and they’ve been adding stretch goals like madmen, thus making the game more awesome by the day. If you’re a table top gamer, do yourself a favor and check it out! Here’s the Kickstarter link and below you’ll find some artwork created for the game...

That’s all for now! Stay tuned...
