In regular Blu-ray news, the Warner Archive Collection has revealed that they’re releasing Paul Newman’s Rachel, Rachel (1986) on 9/6, followed by John Cromwell’s Abe Lincoln in Illinois (1940) on 9/13, and a Blu-ray re-issue of Merian C. Cooper and Ernest B. Schoedsack’s King Kong (1933) on 9/20.
Meanwhile, Sony has set Phantom of the Open for Blu-ray and DVD release on 8/30, followed by Outlander: Season Six on both formats on 9/6.
CBS is releasing what appears to be an MOD Blu-ray release of Walker: Season One on 9/20.
Paramount is re-issuing Star Trek: The Next Generation – The Complete Series on Blu-ray on 9/20 as well. This appears to be the same packaging as before.
And speaking of Paramount, we’ve learned that Airplane II: The Sequel is now available for purchase and streaming in 4K on Apple TV and other digital services.
Finally today, he’s something that will be of both interest and frustration to James Bond fans: Zavvi and the official 007 store are releasing what appears to be a UK only Blu-ray Steelbook Special Edition of the 007 classic Dr. No in honor of the film’s 60th anniversary. It’s set to street on 10/3. The package includes a slipcase, a poster, a 32-page booklet, a “Dragon Tank Buildable Board Figure” and 4 lobby card reproductions. Disc-based content appears to be the same as the previous Blu-ray release. There’s no sign of a 4K Ultra HD release, nor is there any indication that the Blu-ray itself is remastered. Here’s what it looks like (clicking on the image takes you to Zavvi UK and here is a Zavvi US link)...
With all of the Bond films now streaming in 4K UHD on Amazon Prime, there’s unfortunately no word whatsoever on possible physical 4K UHD releases of these films, anniversary or no.
In any case, we’ll leave you with a look at the cover artwork for those three Warner Archive titles, which are now available for pre-order on Amazon...
Have a great weekend! See you Monday…
