To kick things off today here at The Bits, we start with some daily site business: Tim has turned in his thoughts on Shout! Factory’s new Blu-ray release of Cheech and Chong’s Next Movie. It’s certainly worth a look if you’re a fan of the film.

Also here at The Bits today, we’ve got the weekly update of the Release Dates & Artwork section, featuring all the latest Blu-ray, DVD, and 4K Ultra HD cover artwork and Amazon.com pre-order links. As always, whenever you order literally anything from Amazon after clicking through any one of our links, you’re helping to support our work here at the site and we really do appreciate it.

One last reminder: Be sure to follow Bits editor Bill Hunt (aka, yours truly) on Twitter and Facebook if you’re plugged into social media. I’m trying to be a little more active there, as it’s often a better way to communicate with you guys than e-mail. Social media is also usually the first place I share new BD/4K reviews and breaking industry news before it gets written up into a Bits post. Plus, you’ll get my observations on other areas of interest. Hope to see you there! [Read on here…]

Now then... here’s some great Blu-ray news for you TV fans: Mill Creek Entertainment has announced that they’re releasing NBC/Universal’s Friday Night Lights: The Complete Series on Blu-ray Disc on 9/12. The set will include all 5 seasons of the series on 13 discs for SRP $99.98. It’s possible that whatever extras were on the previous season DVD sets will carry over, but we’re not sure. Mill Creek will also be releasing a DVD version that same day for SRP $69.98. You can see the BD cover artwork above left and below.

FYI, Mill Creek is also releasing Coach: The Complete Series on DVD only on 9/12 (SRP $69.98).

Meanwhile, Kino Lorber has added John Irvin’s City of Industry (1997) to their upcoming Blu-ray slate, street date TBA.

Lionsgate and Starz have set The White Princess for release on Blu-ray and DVD on 8/29. The studio also has The Dinner coming to Blu-ray and DVD on 8/8, starring Richard Gere and Laura Linney.

20th Century Fox has set the comedy Snatched for Blu-ray, DVD, and 4K Ultra HD release on 8/8, starring Amy Schumer and Goldie Hawn.

Here’s a little bit of a surprise: VCI Entertainment has set the original One Million B.C. (1940) for Blu-ray and DVD release on 7/25, mastered from a new 2K restoration of the 35mm film negative. Directed by Hal Roach and Hal Roach Jr., the film stars Victor Mature, Carole Landis, Lon Chaney, Jr., and Conrad Nagel. Extras will include an original promotional recording and a photo gallery.

Universal Studios Home Entertainment is releasing Roel Reine’s Dead Again in Tombstone on Blu-ray and DVD on 9/12. The film stars Danny Trejo and Jake Busey.

Sony Pictures Home Entertainment will bow Maurice, starring Hugh Grant and James Wilby, on Blu-ray and DVD on 9/5.

Blue Underground has set Dick Mass’ Amsterdamned (1988) for release on Collector’s Edition Blu-ray/DVD Combo on 8/29. Gotta admit, I like the title.

For anime fans, Sentai Entertainment has set Beyond the Boundary: I’ll Be Here for Blu-ray release on 8/22.

And finally today, this Friday marks the 35th anniversary of one of our favorite films, and arguably one of the two or three best science fiction films of all time: Ridley Scott’s Blade Runner. In honor of the occasion, our own Michael Coate is working on a special new History, Legacy & Showmanship retrospective column on the film’s original theatrical release. We hope to post that here at The Bits probably on Monday, so you have that to look forward to. Meanwhile, Entertainment Weekly has a new Blade Runner: 2049 behind-the-scenes featurette available for you to check out here. I don’t know about you, but I’m getting cautiously hopeful that this sequel could actually be a worthy follow-up. Fingers crossed.

We’ll leave you today with a look at more new Blu-ray Disc cover artwork, with Amazon.com pre-order links if available...
