We’ve got a new disc review today from Tim—actually a pair of reviews, but it’s essentially the same title in two different packaging SKUs—featuring his thoughts on John McTiernan’s Last Action Hero (1993) in 4K Ultra HD and 4K UHD Steelbook from Sony Pictures Home Entertainment. Sounds like it’s a good release, so do give it a look.

Now then, the big news today is that Criterion has officially announced their September slate, which is set to include Neil Jordan’s Mona Lisa (Blu-ray and DVD – Spine #107) on 9/14, Gina-Prince-Bythewood’s Love & Basketball (Blu-ray and DVD – Spine #1097) and Johnnie To’s Throw Down (Blu-ray and DVD – Spine #1092) on 9/21, and Luchino Visconti’s The Damned (Blu-ray and DVD – Spine #1098) and Melvin Van Peebles: Four Films (Blu-ray only, includes The Story of a Three Day Pass – Spine #1093, Watermelon Man – Spine #1094, Sweet Sweetback’s Baadasssss Song – Spine #1095, and Don’t Play Us Cheap – Spine #1096) on 9/28. You can see the cover artwork for Melvin Van Peebles: Four Films at left and also below the break. Click here for all the A/V and extras details on the Criterion website.

Also today, we’ve gotten word from retail sources that Paramount will be releasing The Addams Family and Scream on 4K Ultra HD in October (tentative street date for each is 10/12).

Lionsgate is also expected to release Spiral: From the Book of Saw on Blu-ray, DVD, and 4K Ultra HD on 7/20.

And Studio Canal is apparently working on a new 4K Ultra HD release of Kathryn Bigelow’s Near Dark expected sometime later this year or early next. You can read more on that here at Bloody Disgusting.

We’ve updated our 4K Ultra HD Release List here at The Bits with all of this information as well.

On the regular Blu-ray front, Warner Bros. Home Entertainment has set Those Who Wish Me Dead for Blu-ray and DVD release on 8/3. It will also be available digitally on 7/2. And of course, the film has been available for viewing recently on HBO Max in 4K with HDR. There is no physical 4K release planned here in the States, though we believe there may be one in parts of Europe. Extras on the disc versions will include Making Those Who Wish Me Dead and Those Who Wish Me Dead: First Look.

Also, Mill Creek Entertainment has set For Richer or Poorer, a The Watcher/The Skeleton Key double feature, and Rad for Blu-ray release on 8/17. They also have a Toy Soldiers/December double feature due on Blu-ray on 6/29.

And in DVD only news, Paramount will release The Misfits on DVD on 8/10.

That’s all for today! We’ll leave you with a look at the cover artwork for a few of the titles mentioned above, with Amazon.com pre-order links if available...
