All right, we’re back here at The Bits with another great film retrospective column from our own Michael Coate, who’s celebrating the 35th anniversary of Tobe Hooper’s Poltergeist today in History, Legacy & Showmanship. As always, Michael details the film’s initial theatrical release and he’s got an interview with film historian Michael Matessino as well. Enjoy!

In new release news today, Paramount has set a John Wayne Double Feature on Blu-ray on 8/8, featuring Rio Lobo and Big Jake. Both films have been available on BD individually for a few years now.

Finally today, here’s something pretty terrific: Our old friend and longtime Bits columnist and reviewer Dr. Adam Jahnke has been busy creatively these last few months and the result is finally available for all of you to check out. He’s written a dramatic podcast series for Zero Mile Media called Tribulation! Here’s the official synopsis from iTunes:

“On a deserted stretch of highway, Greg and Stacy Carlson stumble on a faint radio broadcast at the end of the AM dial. What sounds like your average radio sermon reveals itself to be something far more sinister. Strangely fascinated, Greg becomes obsessed with investigating the source of the broadcast. His subsequent disappearance leaves Stacy alone, bewildered, terrified… and on a quest for the truth.”

There are 10 episodes in all (about 20 minutes each), which will be released one per week on iTunes. You can download them for listening completely for free. The first episode is now available here and it’s pretty terrific. Do give it a listen, and then let Adam know what you think over on the podcast’s official Facebook page here and on Twitter here at @TribulationCult. Congratulations, Adam! Well done, sir.
