In announcement news today, Fox has officially set The X-Files: The Event Series for release on Blu-ray and DVD on 6/14. The sets will include audio commentary on Founder’s Mutation (with Chris Carter and James Wong), audio commentary on Mulder & Scully Meet the Were-Monster (with David Duchovny, Gillian Anderson, Kumail Nanjiani, and Darin Morgan), and audio commentary on My Struggle II (with Chris Carter and Gabe Rotter), along with deleted and extended scenes, a gag reel, 3 featurettes (The Makings of a Struggle, Season X: An In-Depth Behind-the-Scenes Look at The Event Series, and Monsters of the Week: A Recap from the Wildest and Scariest from the Original Series), the show’s Green Production PSA, and the Grace short film by Karen Nielsen. You can see the final cover artwork below.
Universal has officially set London Has Fallen for Blu-ray and DVD release on 6/14, with the digital version available on 5/31. Extras will include a pair of behind-the-scenes featurettes (The Making of London Has Fallen and Guns and Knives & Explosives).
Universal has also set Angelina Jolie’s By the Sea for release on Blu-ray and DVD on 7/5. And the studio will release The Young Messiah on both formats on 6/14.
And Paramount has set Zoolander No. 2: The Magnum Edition for Blu-ray Combo and DVD release on 5/24, with the digital release due on 5/3. Extras on the Blu-ray only will include 4 featurettes (The Zoolander Legacy, Go Big or Go Rome, Drake Sather: The Man Who Created Zoolander, and Youth Milk).
Meanwhile, Starz and Anchor Bay have quietly set The Walking Dead: The Complete Sixth Season for Blu-ray and DVD pre-order on Amazon with a street date of 8/23 (SRP $79.99 and $69.98 – though each is nearly 40% cheaper on Amazon). There’s no word yet of the usual Amazon-exclusive Limited Edition version, but that will certainly be revealed later when the title is officially announced by the studio.
Kino Lorber has added One Million Years B.C. (1966) and Star Crystal (1986) to the list of catalog films it’s working on for release on Blu-ray and DVD later this year. Meanwhile, Kino has set Absolution (1978) for Blu-ray and DVD release on 7/5.
Now if we could only get War of the Worlds (1953), When Worlds Collide (1951), Destination Moon (1950), Conquest of Space (1955), and Arena (1989) on Blu-ray Disc, that would really be terrific. Perhaps some third party distributor or boutique label might try licensing them?
In other release news today, Lionsgate has set Get a Job for Blu-ray, DVD, and digital on 6/14.
IFC and Shout! Factory have set Cabin Fever for Blu-ray and DVD release on 7/5.
Arrow Video has set the anime Female Prisoner Scorpion: The Complete Collection for Blu-ray/DVD Combo release on 7/26 (SRP $124.95).
And Cinedigm will release the official 2016 Stanley Cup Champions Blu-ray on 7/26 (SRP $34.93).
