We’ve got another new disc review for you today, actually two of them in a way: Our own Tim Salmons has taken a look at Graham Annable and Anthony Stacchi’s The BoxTrolls in 4K Ultra HD from Laika via Shout! Factory—both the regular Amaray version as well as the Steelbook packaging.

In announcement news today, our friend George Feltenstein has just revealed (via Tim Millard’s excellent The Extras podcast) the Warner Archive Collection’s planned April slate of Blu-ray titles, which will officially include Safe in Hell (1931) mastered from a 4K scan and restoration of a rare and newly-discovered 35 mm print, along with One Way Passage (1932), The Strawberry Blonde (1941), and Storm Warning (1951) each mastered from new 4K scans of the original camera negatives, and A Lion in the Streets (1953) mastered from a new 4K restoration of the original three-strip Technicolor camera negatives. All of these titles are due to street toward the end of the month (dates TBA).

The Warner Archive has apparently been working with The Film Foundation on these titles. Also revealed to be coming at some point this year to Blu-ray is The Roaring Twenties (1939). Again, street date is TBA. [Read on here...]

In other announcement news today: A24 has just acquired the distribution rights to Jonathan Demme’s landmark concert film Stop Making Sense (1984) featuring The Talking Heads. They’re going to be doing a brand new 4K restoration for theatrical re-release, and no doubt they’ll make it available on 4K Ultra HD later this year as well. You can read more here at Deadline and here’s a look at A24’s new teaser for the project...

The good people of Powerhouse Films and Indicator have just revealed a pair of great 4K Ultra HD catalog titles they have coming in June, including Black Magic Rites (1973) and Cold Eyes of Fear (1971). Look for those to street on 6/27 here in the States.

Severin Films has revealed that they’re working on a new 4K Ultra HD edition of Peter Greenaway’s Drowning by Numbers (1988) for release on 5/30.

Retail sources have informed us that Universal will release The Super Mario Bros. Movie on Blu-ray, DVD, and 4K Ultra HD on 6/6, with Les Miserables (2012) set to follow on 4K Ultra HD on 7/11.

We’re also hearing that Paramount’s Scream VI will arrive on Blu-ray, DVD, and 4K Ultra HD on 7/25.

And retail sources have told us to expect Warner Bros. to release catalog a title we first talked about last year, National Lampoon’s Vacation (1983), on 4K Ultra HD on 7/4.

Now then, Max Fleischer’s Superman is officially available for pre-order on Amazon, and we have that link plus more new cover art (all with Amazon links) for you today as well. Here you go...
