In other news this afternoon, we’ve asked FUNimation for an update on the status of their Akira 4K Ultra HD replacement discs and will post an update here as soon as we hear back from them. As many of you know, their original release was missing High Dynamic Range, so they’re creating replacement discs to correct that. We’ll let you know when they’re expected to ship.
Speaking of replacement discs, Universal has been shipping their Psycho 4K and Blu-ray replacement discs (which now include the proper original mono audio) for a while now. If you’re still waiting on your copies, we suggest that you contact Vision Media (which is handling the replacement program for the studio) at this email address: This email address is being protected from spambots. While we’re talking Psycho, Universal has just confirmed that Psycho and The Birds are coming as 4K Ultra HD singles on 5/25. They’re now available for pre-order on Amazon.com, and we do believe that Psycho will include the corrected discs.
Also newly available for pre-order on Amazon from Universal in 4K are The Fast and the Furious: 20th Anniversary Edition (street date 5/11), and The Sting and National Lampoon’s Animal House (street date 5/18 for each). You can see the cover artwork for some of these below.
And a whole bunch of you who live “across the pond” have been asking me when Zack Snyder’s newly-remastered Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice was coming to 4K Ultra HD in the UK and now we have the answer: 26 April. And it’s now available for pre-order on Amazon UK for just £19.99 at this link. Again, you can see the cover below (both the US and UK versions).
Finally today, Ars Technica has an interesting story up on a Disney+ milestone: The streamer has just officially crossed the 100 million subscriber mark, quite an achievement given that they’ve only been around for 16 months. You can read more on that here.
Back tomorrow! Stay tuned...
