I’ve spent (and continue to spend) most of the afternoon today chasing down interesting leads regarding upcoming Blu-ray and 4K Ultra HD releases. As a result, we’ve got a couple of good items for you today...

First though, we’ve got another new BD review from Tim, who checks in with his thoughts on Fred Wolf’s animated The Point (1971), now on Blu-ray from the MVD Rewind Collection. Be sure to give it a look.

Also today, we’ve updated our 4K Ultra HD Release List (with some new UHD titles I’m about to mention) and also our Release Dates & Artwork section with all of the latest Blu-ray, DVD, and 4K cover art and Amazon.com pre-order links. By the way, if you find that the section is missing some titles, it’s due to issues on Amazon’s side, not our end. They’re just making it very difficult for some titles to be found in their database for whatever reason. We begin with a pair of new Blu-ray Disc reviews, the first from Dennis, who checks out Girl on the Third Floor from Dark Sky Films.

Tim also has a new review for you: Deadly Manor, newly released on Blu-ray from Arrow Video.

And as promised today, our own Michael Coate returns with a new History, Legacy & Showmanship film retrospective. This time, he’s joined by historians Robert A. Caplen, Lisa Funnell, and John Cork in looking back at the James Bond film The World Is Not Enough. The piece is presented in honor of the film’s 20th anniversary in 2019, but was unavoidably delayed from last year. All right, today’s post is going to be a quickie and we’re delaying Michael Coate’s next History, Legacy & Showmanship column to tomorrow. However, it’s another good James Bond retrospective interview, so be sure to watch for that in the morning.

In the meantime, we also have a new Blu-ray review for you: Tim has given Arrow Video’s new Ringu Collection an in-depth look. The set includes Ring, Spiral, Ring 2, and Ring 0: Birthday, plus extras. Horror fans will definitely want to check it out.

How the time flies! It doesn’t seem like that long ago when I first inquired with Bill Hunt about writing disc reviews for The Digital Bits website. At that time, there was a fairly steady set of folks writing for him, including Adam Jahnke, Todd Doogan, and the late Barrie Maxwell. Working me in was not easy, but it paid off. I had been an avid reader of The Bits for a number of years, even occasionally emailing them with little tidbits of information that came my way about future releases. The thought of being where I am now, one of the main contributors for the site... needless to say, it’s mind-boggling, and I never take it for granted.

Before I came to The Bits, I was just a regular guy with dreams of doing more than hopping between jobs at restaurants, factories, and places that required janitorial work. I had been obsessed with film since I was a kid, which I thank my Father for. He made home copies of movies all the time, and as such, it was the first film library that I ever had access to. Right through to my twenties, I was watching anything and everything I could get my hands on. I was also reading a lot of film books and, thanks to the Internet, researching everything about movies as much as possible. I don’t want to say I was an expert though because that would be a lie. I didn’t have a 100% understanding of the home video industry and how it functioned, only a working knowledge. Even to this day, I learn new things all the time, which is good. I’d hate to be in a position where there was nothing left to learn. How boring would that be? [Read on here...]

I’ve just finished my look at Taika Waititi’s Oscar-winning satire Jojo Rabbit in 4K Ultra HD from 20th Century Fox Home Entertainment.

I’ve also taken a look at Mike Flanagan’s surprisingly good sequel to The Shining, Doctor Sleep, now in Ultra HD from Warner Bros. Home Entertainment. (This one is a reference-quality 4K A/V experience.)

Tim has turned in his thoughts on Don Sharp’s Rasputin the Mad Monk (1966) on Blu-ray from Scream Factory.

And in case you missed it the other day, we have a review of Paramount’s new Steelbook 4K edition of The Hunt for Red October that’s being released in honor of the film’s 30th anniversary. [Read on here...]

First up, I’ve turned in my thoughts on Ruben Fleischer’s long-awaited sequel Zombieland: Double Tap in 4K Ultra HD from Sony Pictures Home Entertainment.

And a quick heads-up: I’ll have a review of Mike Flanagan’s Doctor Sleep in 4K Ultra HD from Warner Bros. Home Entertainment done soon as well.

Also, Tim has just finished his in-depth look at Scream Factory’s outstanding new Universal Horror Collection: Volume 3 Blu-ray box set, which includes Rowland V. Lee’s Tower of London, George Waggner’s Man Made Monster and Horror Island, and Albert S. Rogell’s The Black Cat. [Read on here...]

I’ve just posted my in-depth thoughts on Roland Emmerich’s Midway (2019), new on 4K Ultra HD from Lionsgate.

I’ve also posted a full review of the Warner Archive Collection’s amazing new Tex Avery Screwball Classics: Volume 1 Blu-ray, which is worth every penny.

And Tim has added his thoughts on Scream Factory’s My Bloody Valentine: Collector’s Edition on Blu-ray.

We’ve got just a quick update today, as we’re working on reviews.

On that note, our own Tim Salmons has just turned in a look at Paramount’s new Blu-ray only Beverly Hills Cop: 3-Movie Collection. The 3-disc set includes new HD presentations of all three films (mastered from new 4K scans, which are only available digitally), including the first-ever Blu-ray presentation of Beverly Hills Cop II and III. The set also carries over the previous extras, most of which cover the original film. You can read more about it all here.

Also today, we’ve updated our 4K Ultra HD Release List to include forthcoming (and/or recently released) German UHD titles (available on Amazon.de) including Angel Heart (from Studio Canal), Oldboy and the original Rollerball (from Capelight Pictures), The Texas Chainsaw Massacre and The Princess Bride (from Turbine Media), Evil Dead II (from Jakob GmbH) and Parasite (from Koch Media GmbH). Note that Oldboy appears to have English subtitles, but Parasite does not. [Read on here...]

And Tim has taken a look at Paolo Heusch’s Werewolf in a Girl’s Dormitory (1961) from Severin Films and Lucio Fulci’s The House by the Cemetary (1981) from Blue Underground.
