The Walking Dead: More Than Zombies

[Editor’s Note: This column contains spoilers for the first three seasons of the series.  Proceed with caution!]

The Walking Dead is a show about more than just zombies.

Behind some of the violence and gore, The Walking Dead is about friendship and trust in a new society of a post-apocalyptic world.  Right from the first episode, individuals come together to survive against an endless army of undead.  They don’t trust each other yet but learn to adapt at a time when society has been extinguished from what they’ve known before.  Soon, a large family unit has risen from a world crawling with zombies.  [Read on here…]

Today’s Oktoberfest review pits the good Dr. Jahnke against Kurt Neumann’s 1958 version of The Fly, now available on Blu-ray from 20th Century Fox Home Entertainment.  The take-away lesson: never play with unlicensed “disintegration/re-integration” machines.  Gotta love Vincent Price!

In announcement news today, the big news is that Universal has officially set Fast & Furious 6 for Blu-ray and DVD release on 12/10.  The Blu-ray will exclusively include an extended version of the film, the Take Control viewing mode featuring the director and cast, the 4-part Planes, Tanks and Automobiles documentary (includes The London Chase, Highway Heist: The Convoy Attack, The Antonov Takedown and Dom and Letty Race Again) and 3 additional featurettes (Gearhead’s Delight, The FLIP Car and Hand-to-Hand Fury).  In addition to this, both the Blu-ray and DVD will include deleted scenes, feature commentary with director Justin Lin, the On the Set with Vin featurette and the 4-part The Making of Fast & Furious 6 documentary (including The Fastest of Them All, Reuniting the Team, Letty’s Return and The Mastermind and The Mole).  [Read on here...]

Earlier this year, The Digital Bits celebrated the 30th anniversary of Return of the Jedi with this retrospective article.  Now, we continue our anniversary coverage of Jedi, the concluding chapter of George Lucas’s original Star Wars trilogy, with this Q&A with author J.W. Rinzler regarding his new book, The Making of Return of the Jedi, which is due out this week from Del Rey/LucasBooks.  [Read on here…]

All right, as you can probably see... The Hell Plaza Oktoberfest Se7en is here!  Doc Jahnke and I kicked things off early this morning with the official Fest page and Adam’s first review: Scream Factory’s The Amityville Horror Collection on Blu-ray!  Every weekday, all this month, Adam will offer up another Halloween-themed movie review on Blu-ray and DVD for your reading (and creepy viewing) pleasure!

Also, we strongly recommend that you guys head on over to Facebook and give both The Digital Bits and Jahnke’s Electric Theater pages there a “like” because all month long we’re going to be giving away (on both Facebook pages) a bunch of great Blu-rays from Shout!
