Okay… my apologies for the lack of a daily column yesterday. I find myself unexpectedly fighting a computer problem that’s keeping me from getting a lot of regular work done. So I’ve been stuck here in the lab pulling my hair out like a mad scientist for quite a few hours. Hope to have that resolved by the end of the day today.
Meanwhile, we are not without content for you to enjoy here at The Bits today! [Read on here…]
Remembering “The Terminator” on its 30th Anniversary
“I’ll be back!”
The Digital Bits is pleased to present this retrospective commemorating the 30th anniversary of The Terminator, James Cameron’s science fiction classic starring Arnold Schwarzenegger, Linda Hamilton and Michael Biehn.
Originally produced by Hemdale and distributed by Orion Pictures, The Terminator was a low-budget production that caught the industry by surprise, grossing over ten times its cost and launching or elevating the careers of everyone involved, and spawning a successful franchise of movies, novels, comic books, video games, theme park attractions, and a television series. We have two more Blu-ray reviews for you this. The first is Dr. Jahnke’s Hell Plaza Oktoberfest review of Scream Factory’s Dolls: Collector’s Edition. And the other is Tim’s take on Hannibal: Season Two from Lionsgate. [Read on here…]
Doctor Who: S8, This Is Where I Leave You, Working Girl, The One I Love, Olive’s December & more

Today’s Hell Plaza Oktoberfest Blu-ray review from Dr. Jahnke is another great one from Scream Factory – Brian de Palma’s 1974 cult classic Phantom of Paradise. It’s well worth your time, so do check out both Adam’s review and the film on Blu-ray.
Now then... I’m about six hours into a return to Middle-Earth with Warner’s The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug – Extended Edition Blu-ray. But that means I’ve still got like ten hours of viewing to go. The disc has no less than TEN hours of documentary content, plus the film is over three hours (with about 25 minutes of new and extended footage) and has an audio commentary too. So I would say plan on reading my full review of the 5-disc BD set bright and early on Monday morning here at The Bits. [Read on here…]

All right, this will be a bit of a quick post because there’s not a lot of news to report and we’re working on new Blu-ray reviews for you guys. As such, we have three for you today.
Dr. Jahnke’s Hell Plaza Oktoberfest review this morning is a dandy – Scream Factory’s new Nightbreed: The Director’s Cut – Limited Edition Blu-ray set. It’s another home run from a company that seems to do nothing but these days.
Speaking of which, I’ve checked in today with a review of Shout! Factory’s outstanding and remastered Pee-wee’s Playhouse: The Complete Series box set on Blu-ray – a title we first revealed at our panel way back at San Diego Comic-Con in 2013. The remastering and extras were personally supervised by Pee-wee himself, Paul Reubens, and the result is pretty impressive. [Read on here…]

All right, we’ve quite a bit to get through today, so let’s get to it…
Dr. Jahnke’s Hell Plaza Oktoberfest review for today is none other than a 1988 horror classic, directed by the great Stan Winston and now available from Scream Factory on Blu-ray. I’m speaking, of course, of the lovely new Pumpkinhead: Collector’s Edition. Enjoy! [Read on here…]

Burnt Offerings for October 21, 2014
Last week’s Burnt Offerings fell victim to the Dreaded Deadline Doom, so my apologies to regular readers of this column, if any. This week is a little light on new releases but I’ll try to scrounge up some interesting morsels just the same. As ever and always shall be, please channel your shopping cyberdollars through the little banners seen below and accept our gratitude for helping support The Bits. [Read on here...]

Welcome back to GripeSoda’s List-o-Mantic.
Zombies were the thing last week. Vampires is this. I bring you the 10 Best Vampire Movies according to me.
This go-round, I’m including likeminded films in the same number standing – so rather than sequels or series, this time, it’s versions. Basically it’s kind of a potpourri of the best Dracula films at number 3 and the films you should check out to embrace Nosferatu (who, I know is Dracula, but just stop and let me have my dang list please). Please to enjoy what I think about Vamps. [Read on here…]

We’re kicking the new week off with more Hell Plaza Oktoberfest from Dr. Jahnke. Today’s BD review from Adam is a great one: Scream Factory’s The Vincent Price Collection II, which streets tomorrow. Don’t miss it!
Also here at The Bits today, our own Michael Coate takes time in his new History, Legacy & Showmanship column to celebrate the 20th anniversary of Quentin Tarantino’s Pulp Fiction by hosting a roundtable interview with a trio of great film historians. Can you believe it’s been twenty years since the film’s debut in October of 1994? Crazy. [Read on here…]
