Bugs Bunny: 80th Blu-ray revealed [UPDATED], plus Gamera: Complete Collection, Tales from the Darkside: The Movie & Hills Run Red reviewed
[UPDATED WITH NEW BUGS BUNNY BLU-RAY DETAILS BELOW.]
BIG release news today, but we’re starting our post with a new Blu-ray review...
Tim has taken a look at Dave Parker’s 2009 Warner Premiere horror film The Hills Run Red, newly released on Blu-ray by Scream Factory. The disc includes nearly 6.5 hours worth of special features created by Parker and the film’s producer, Robert Meyer Burnett, a longtime friend of The Bits. The disc is seriously stacked with extras, so do give it a look.
Speaking of Scream Factory, the company has just announced that their forthcoming Tales from the Darkside: The Movie – Collector’s Edition Blu-ray (due on 8/25) will include audio commentary with co-producer David R. Kappes, the original DVD audio commentary from 2001 with director John Harrison and co-screenwriter George A. Romero (the recording of which was featured here on The Bits at the time), the new 6-part and feature-length Tales Behind the Darkside: The Making of Four Ghoulish Fables documentary (featuring Harrison, producer Mitchell Galin, DP Robert Draper, production designer Ruth Ammon, special make-up & creature effects artists Robert Kurtzman, Greg Nicotero, and Howard Berger, creature performer Michael Deak, actors James Remar and Rae Dawn Chong, and editor Harry B. Miller), the theatrical trailer, TV and radio spots, a compilation of behind-the-scenes footage, and image galleries. [Read on here...]

The set will include all 166 episodes of the classic animated series plus two feature films—The Man Called Flintstone (1966) and the more recent The Flintstones & WWE: Stone Age Smackdown (2015). We don’t yet have a street date, but you can see the cover artwork at left and also below.
The good news is that we suspect Warner Bros. Paramount sets a sets a restored Roman Holiday for Blu-ray in September, plus The Bits is a Zavvi affiliate!
We’ve got some great announcement news for you catalog fans today, but first we also have another new Blu-ray review for you to check out...
Our own Tim Salmons has just turned in his thoughts on the 4-disc Laurel & Hardy: The Definitive Restorations BD set from Kit Parker Films and MVD Visual, which includes 21 shorts, 2 feature films, and a bevy of extras. Sounds like it’s a pretty nice set, so if you’re a fan of the comedy duo, you should definitely check it out.
Now then, the big news today is that Paramount Home Entertainment has just revealed that its next Paramount Presents Blu-ray title is none other than William Wyler’s Roman Holiday (1953), starring Audrey Hepburn and Gregory Peck. Look for it to street on 9/15 (SRP $29.98). You can see the cover artwork at left and also below.
The film was digitally restored in 2015 in a process took roughly six months, following an exhaustive worldwide search for the best available elements. [Read on here...]

The Goonies, Beetlejuice & Guy Ritchie’s Sherlock Holmes films are now official for 4K, plus Grant Imahara RIP
We’ve got still more release news to report today, though much if it we’ve already talked about here at The Bits. The point is, it’s all now official.
First up, Warner Bros. Home Entertainment has just set four catalog titles for release on 4K Ultra HD (with Blu-ray and Digital Copy) on 9/1...
These include Richard Donner’s The Goonies (1985), Tim Burton’s Beetlejuice (1988), and Guy Ritchie’s Sherlock Holmes (2009) and Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows (2011). All four were shot on film, so appear to have been mastered from new 4K scans of the original camera negatives (the two Sherlock Holmes titles were shot on film but finished as 2K DIs, so it’s possible new 4K DIs were built from scans of the camera neg and VFX film outs).
All four titles will include the previous Blu-ray extras. In addition, Beetlejuice will offer a new English Dolby Atmos sound mix. There’s no indication of Dolby Vision HDR in Warner’s press release, so assume HDR10 for the time being. Both The Goonies and Beetlejuice will also be available in new Deluxe 4K Giftsets exclusive to Amazon.com. [Read on here...]

Heads-up: Criterion/Barnes & Noble, Warner Archive, and Arrow Video are all having Summer disc sales!
This is just a quick update to let you all know that there are some great sales on now for Blu-ray and DVD releases…
The Criterion Collection has just kicked off their annual Summer 50% off sale at Barnes and Noble. So if there are Criterion Blu-ray titles that you’ve been looking for, now is the time to snag them at a great price. Be aware though, titles are going in and out of stock (and then back in stock) by the hour. So if there’s a title you’re looking for and it shows as out of stock the first time you check, check back often—it will become available again fairly quickly. And that sale will run until August 2nd, so there’s plenty of time to take advantage.
Also today, the Warner Archive Collection is running its popular 4 titles for $44 sale on WB Shop, with more than 2800 titles to choose from. That sale runs until Monday, July 13 at 11:59 PM PST.
And not to be outdone, Arrow Video is running their own Summer sale with titles up to 70%. That sale will run until July 21 at 12 PM BST. (FYI, that’s British Summer Time for my fellow Americans film enthusiasts).
So stock up, happy disc shopping… and have a great weekend!
