All right, the big news today is that Paramount has just officially announced the 6/7 release of the Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan – Director’s Edition on Blu-ray (as we first revealed here on The Digital Bits a few weeks ago). The film itself has been remastered from a new 4K scan, with the participation of director Nicholas Meyer, and will be included on the disc in 1080p in both the original theatrical cut and the slightly longer Director’s Cut, each with 7.1 Dolby TrueHD audio. Congratulations to Elon Musk and everyone Space-X today, for successfully launching a Dragon spacecraft to the International Space Station and safely landing the first stage of the Falcon 9 rocket back on Earth (on a platform out at sea)! That is some serious steely-eyed missile man magic right there. [Read on here…]

First up, we’ve got a trio of new Blu-ray reviews for you all to enjoy this afternoon. Both are worthy of your time and attention. Also, Tim finally got his hands on Disney’s new Star Wars: The Force Awakens Blu-ray and had a thing or two to say about it as well. Do give his review a look. [Read on here…]

All right, we’ve got one more big bit of 4K UHD news for you.
As we first revealed a few weeks go, Paramount has just officially announced the 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray release of J.J. Abrams’ Star Trek (2009) and Star Trek Into Darkness on 6/14.
Both titles will include new 4K UHD transfers with High Dynamic Range and Dolby Atmos soundtracks. Each will be a 3-disc combo pack including a 4K UHD disc, 2 Blu-ray Discs (a movie disc and a special features disc), and digital copy. You can see the cover artwork below... [Read on here…]
Force Awakens week is here, plus Fox officially sets Deadpool for 5/10 & both Ghostbusters films are going 4K
[Editor’s Note: Be sure to follow us on Twitter @thedigitalbits @BillHuntBits and on Facebook here and here. And you can help support The Bits by pre-ordering Blu-rays and other items from Amazon through this link.]
Well... I suppose you could call this Star Wars week, given Disney’s The Force Awakens arrives on Blu-ray tomorrow. I know that some of you have already received your copies in the mail – a few online retailers (including Target, Best Buy and Amazon) began shipping them to pre-order customers early. If you haven’t done so yet, you can pre-order a copy via Amazon here at this link. And of course, you can read our in-depth review of the Blu-ray here at The Bits. It’s a pretty good release – fine Blu-ray A/V quality and that documentary is a gem. I expect there will be more than a few people around the States who end up coming down with cases of “Force flu” this week to stay home and check it out. Here’s hoping you enjoy it as much as we did! No fooling: Trek: TOS/TNG BD “mega-packs” are coming, plus Trek II, Force Awakens Tuesday & more
[Editor’s Note: Be sure to follow us on Twitter @thedigitalbits @BillHuntBits and on Facebook here and here. And you can help support The Bits by pre-ordering Blu-rays and other items from Amazon through this link.]
We’ve got just a quick update for you all on this silliest of all days...
No fooling here though: Star Trek.com has just revealed that CBS is releasing Star Trek: The Original Series – The Complete Series and Star Trek: The Next Generation – The Complete Series Blu-ray “Mega Packs” in June (SRP $99.99 and $208.99, respectively). Unfortunately, as we indicated in our previous article on the subject a couple weeks ago, these are simply repackages of the previously released single-season Blu-ray sets. It doesn’t appear that there will be any new content. (Note that there will also be a DVD repackage of the TNG set for SRP $144.99.) This is, at least, an opportunity to purchase the series on Blu-ray at a somewhat reduced price. You can see the cover artwork for both BD sets below (we’ll add the Amazon links as soon as they’re available)... [Read on here…]
