First, our own Michael Coate has turned in a new History, Legacy & Showmanship column looking back at The Blue Max, including the film’s original roadshow release and also composer Jerry Goldsmith’s work on the score. This is, of course, in honor of the new Twilight Time Blu-ray release of the film today, as well as La-La Land Records’ excellent new 2-disc soundtrack CD release! Michael even includes an interview with our old friend (and film music historian) Jeff Bond, who wrote a track-by-track analysis of the score for the CD. Also today, our own Mario Boucher has turned in a new Inside Cinema column today, in which he goes behind the scenes at Digital Domain on the making of Gavin Hood’s Ender’s Game, which is newly-available on Blu-ray from Lionsgate. Tim has checked in this afternoon with a brand new Blu-ray review: Jean-Pierre Melville’s Two Men in Manhattan, now available from the Cohen Film Collection. More reviews are on the way, so be sure to check back over the next few days.
In announcement news today, MGM has announced that it’s celebrating its 90th anniversary with new 4K restorations of some of its best films, including Rocky, Rain Man, Fargo, RoboCop and The Good, The Bad and The Ugly and is releasing them on Blu-ray. RoboCop is already available and most of the others are already available for pre-order on Amazon.com. Meanwhile, they’re releasing other titles on Blu-ray like In the Heat of the Night, A Chrous Line, The Birdcage and others. [Read on here…]

Well, folks... today is the Friday before Christmas, so you know what that means. Hollywood is shutting down for the holidays and lots of you are starting your Christmas vacations!
Things are going to be pretty slow over the next week or two, so we may not check in every day, but we’ll try to drop by if there anything worth reporting for you guys. You never know. And we’ll have some reviews for you too.
