All right, there’s not a lot of release news today, so I thought we’d catch up on some Blu-ray reviews...
First up today, we have a new review from our own Tim Salmons of Universal and Laika’s excellent The Boxtrolls on Blu-ray. It’s a great little film, and we always love seeing stop-motion animation get its due in this time when CG seems to dominate for such titles. [Read on here…]

Today is review day here at The Bits, and we’ve got a fine batch for you. To kick things off, I’ve updated my review of DreamWorks’ first film ever, The Peacemaker, from 2010. We’ve also updated a pair of great 2011 BD reviews from our dear friend Barrie Maxwell on the old Bits website: Warner’s Citizen Kane: 70th Anniversary UCE and Ben-Hur: 50th Anniversary UCE. Finally, we have a pair of new Blu-ray reviews today too from our own Tim Salmons, including Synapse’s fine new Prom Night: Special Edition and a Robert Altman classic that’s now available from our friends at Criterion: Nashville. All these discs are well worth your time and the reviews are pretty fine as well, if we do say so ourselves, so we hope you enjoy reading them! [Read on here…]

Well folks, this is going to be our last post until Monday as we take the rest of the week off to spend the Christmas holiday with our families. But we do have some cool stuff for you…
First, we’ve got a pair of new Blu-ray reviews. Our own Tim Salmons has checked out Scream Factory’s Lord of Illusions and Criterion’s The Innocents, and both are well worth a look. Also, in the spirit of the holiday season, we present my review of Frank Capra’s It’s a Wonderful Life on Blu-ray, as well as Dr. Jahnke’s look at A Christmas Story, and Barrie Maxwell’s thoughts on White Christmas. While we’re at it, here’s Die Hard too. Because nothing quite says Christmas like “Yippee ki-yay!” Enjoy! [Read on here…]

We’ve got TWO more Blu-ray reviews for you today before we call it a week: Tim’s thoughts on Paramount’s new Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and my own look at Warner’s fine (but also frustrating) Stanley Kubrick: The Masterpiece Collection box set. Do give them a read.
In announcement news today, Microsoft Studios is apparently planning to release the live action/CG hybrid film Halo: Nightfall on Blu-ray on 3/17.
Cohen Media Group has set The Liberator for Blu-ray on 3/10. [Read on here…]

We’ve got a pair of additional Blu-ray reviews for you today...
First of all, Tim has checked out a 1968 film from Sydney Pollack in Kino’s The Scalphunters. I’ve also updated and ported over (from the original Bits site) my own review of review of Fritz Lang’s science fiction classic Metropolis (1927) as released, restored and at long last complete, on Blu-ray by Kino in 2010. Don’t miss them. And note that I’ll be back with another new Blu-ray review tomorrow. [Read on here…]

We’re kicking things off here today at The Bits with a trio of Blu-ray reviews. First up is Tim’s take on Kino’s new BD release of John Huston’s western The Unforgiven from 1960. Also, I’ve posted a pair of Blu-ray reviews from the original Bits website, featuring my take on MGM’s Rocky: The Undisputed Collection from 2009, which contains Rocky I-V and Rocky Balboa, and Fox’s landmark Alien Anthology Blu-ray set from 2010, featuring multiple remastered versions of Alien, Aliens, Alien 3 and Alien Resurrection, plus a truly massive amount of special edition extras – truly one of the best film franchise box sets ever released on Blu-ray. Celebrating Indy and the Last Crusade’s 25th, 3 new reviews & Happy Thanksgiving from The Digital Bits!
All right, this is probably going to be our last post for the week, giving the Thanksgiving holiday here in the States, though we may come back and let you know of any particularly good Black Friday-related Blu-ray and DVD deals as they pop up. Be sure to check our Facebook page for the latest on that score.
But before we go, we have some good stuff for you here at The Bits today…
First of all, our own Michael Coate has just posted a lengthy new History, Legacy & Showmanship column celebrating the 25th anniversary of Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade! He’s got release trivia, a list of initial 70mm screenings, and new interviews with film historians and authors Scott Higgins, Eric Lichtenfeld, Joseph McBride and Jonathan Rinzler. Don’t miss it! New BD reviews, a Michael Coate column, Zero Theorem & Glen A. Larson RIP
We have some sad news to report this morning, but let’s get this out of the way first…
We’ve got a couple of new Blu-ray reviews for you today. Tim has given Criterion’s recent Blu-ray release of John Ford’s My Darling Clementine a look – a fantastic film and one of my favorite westerns. And I’ve chimed in as well with my thoughts on another favorite: Yoji Yamada’s The Twilight Samurai, a samurai classic from 2002, available now on Blu-ray from Twilight Time. Both films are well worth your time.
We also have a quick new History, Legacy & Showmanship column from our own Michael Coate for you today, taking a look back at Disney’s The Little Mermaid on the week of its 25th anniversary. Do give it a look. [Read on here…]
