Bugs Bunny: 80th Blu-ray reviewed, plus Amazon takes Coming 2 America, and more Amazon & Zavvi BD/4K deals
We’re closing out the week here at The Bits with a couple more reviews...
I’ve posted my in-depth thoughts on Warner Bros. Home Entertainment’s new Bugs Bunny: 80th Anniversary Collection Blu-ray set. You’ll be glad to know that it’s pretty great. The remastered shorts look fantastic, and the new hour-long documentary is worth every minute of your time. And for those of you who might be wondering, I’ve compiled a list of the Bugs Bunny shorts that remain unreleased on Blu-ray AFTER this set (also accounting for the shorts included on all the previous Looney Tunes: Platinum Collection BD sets). You’ll find that at the end of the review.
Also today, Tim has posted his thoughts on Alain Jessua’s Shock Treatment (1973) on Blu-ray from Severin Films.
And we’ll be working on more Blu-ray and 4K reviews all weekend here at the site. Next up for me is a look at Kino Lorber Studio Classics’ restored Blu-ray of Mad Max (the 4K review will be added as soon as we receive the disc), as well as HBO’s Chernobyl in 4K Ultra HD. And there are more to follow. [Read on here...]

Flicker Alley’s Laurel or Hardy Blu-ray, plus Bill & Ted Face the Music 4K in the UK & big Amazon 4K sales
We’re starting things off today with no less than FOUR new disc reviews here at The Bits...
First, Tim has a look for you at director Ryland Brickson Cole Tews’ Lake Michigan Monster (2018), a wonky low-budget cult film on Blu-ray from Arrow Video. He’s also posted his thoughts on Guy Hamilton’s Evil Under the Sun (1982), an Agatha Christie adaptation on Blu-ray from Kino Lorber Studio Classics featuring Peter Ustinov as detective Hercule Poirot.
Meanwhile, I’ve just posted a review of South Korean filmmaker Yeon Sang-ho’s latest film, Peninsula, the sequel to his excellent 2016 zombie thriller Train to Busan. That’s on 4K Ultra HD from our friends at Well Go USA. I also posted a look at Weathering with You (2019), the latest anime from Your Name director Makoto Shinkai, coming soon from GKids and Shout! Factory in a 4K Ultra HD Limited Collector’s Edition.
And more Blu-ray and 4K reviews are on the way, rest assured. There are a number of good titles coming in right now, and we’re working our way through them as fast as we can. [Read on here...]
Criterion’s February slate, plus Arrow’s Django in 4K, A24’s Midsommar: Director’s Cut back in stock & more
All right, we’re kicking off the week with several new disc reviews...
I’ve just posted my thoughts on Damien Chazelle’s Whiplash (2014) in 4K from Sony Pictures Home Entertainment, along with Neill Blomkamp’s District 9 (2009) in 4K also from Sony, and the new Buck Rogers in the 25th Century: The Complete Collection on Blu-ray from Kino Lorber Studio Classics.
We also have two new disc reviews from Dennis, including Tay Garnett’s Seven Sinners (1940) from Kino Lorber Studio Classics, and Norman Jewison’s Moonstuck (1987) from Criterion, both on Blu-ray.
Tim’s working on more Blu-ray reviews too, and I have several more new and recent 4K title reviews in progress as well. And yes, if you’re wondering, we are planning to review Second Sight’s Dawn of the Dead: Limited Edition 4K box set as soon as we get our hands on it. [Read on here...]

Paramount bows The Court Jester on Blu-ray, plus Turbine Media’s great upcoming 4K catalog slate & RIP Alex Trebek
All right, review work is continuing here at The Bits and we should have a few new ones up soon. And in the interest of getting back to that, today’s post will be brief.
But Tim has posted his thoughts on Clint Eastwood’s High Plains Drifter (1973) on Blu-ray from Kino Lorber Studio Classics, not to mention Michele Massimo Tarantini’s Massacre in Dinosaur Valley (1985) also on Blu-ray from Severin Films.
And Dennis has turned in his thoughts on Phil Joanou’s The Veil (2016) on Blu-ray from Kino Lorber Studio Classics as well.
Now then... in announcement news today, Paramount has announced that Melvin Frank and Norman Panama’s 1955 musical-comedy The Court Jester will arrive on Blu-ray on 1/26/2021 as part of the studio’s Paramount Presents line of releases. [Read on here...]

Lovecraft Country Blu-ray in February, plus Castle of Cagliostro 4K in January & RIP to VideoScope’s Joe Kane
We’re working on more new disc reviews here at The Bits today. Specifically, I’ve got District 9 in 4K from Sony, and V for Vendetta in 4K from Warner Bros. Home Entertainment. So I’m going to try to get at last one of those up tomorrow. Tim and Dennis have more in progress today as well.
Meanwhile, Tim has a look at Harry Kümel’s 1971 Belgian horror film Daughters of Darkness, now available in 4K Ultra HD from Blue Underground. Tim says the new 4K scan—from the first time taken from the original camera negative—is a revelation. You’ll find his thoughts here.
The big news today is that Discotek Media has just officially announced their long-awaited 4K Ultra HD release of Hayao Miyazaki’s first animated film, Lupin the Third: The Castle of Cagliostro (1979). Look for it to street on 1/26/2021. [Read on here...]

Mulan 4K, new Kino Lorber Studio Classics titles, Gamera update, Psycho replacement disc update & more
Afternoon, folks. We’ve got a few things for you today to close out the week.
First up, we have a trio of new Blu-ray reviews...
Tim has posted his thoughts on Scott Beck and Bryan Woods’ Haunt (2019) from Ronin Flix.
And Dennis has taken a look at Jan de Bont’s The Haunting (1999) from the Paramount Presents line, as well as Herbert Ross’ The Secret of My Success (1987) on Blu-ray from Kino Lorber Studio Classics.
I’m also about to get my hands on a pretty significant Q4 4K Ultra HD release later today, so (with luck) I’ll be working on a review of the title over the weekend.
No, it’s not Lord of the Rings or The Hobbit, but let’s just say winter is near. So watch for an update over the next few days. [Read on here...]

Friday the 13th disc exchange program from Shout!, plus a Flintstones Blu-ray error & more release news
Today’s update on The Bits is going to be quick because, with a little luck, I should be working on our review of Universal’s Back to the Future Trilogy in 4K by the end of the day.
In the meantime, Tim has posted a review of Kevin Smith’s Mallrats, as recently released on Blu-ray by Arrow Video. Sounds like it’s a pretty good disc, so do give it a look.
Speaking of reviews, we’d like to call your attention once more to Tim’s review of the Friday the 13th Collection: Deluxe Edition Blu-ray box set. Fans (and Shout!/Scream Factory) have discovered three errors in the set, which has led Shout! to establish a disc exchange program. Specifically, there are errors in the Blu-ray discs of Friday the 13th: Part III, Jason Goes to Hell: The Final Friday, and Jason X. We’ve posted the exact details and exchange program instructions at the end of the second part of Tim’s review (click here for that). And if you’re having any problems, are missing discs, or what-have-you, here’s a direct link to the official page where you can report them to Shout!. [Read on here...]

Criterion reveals its January 2021 release slate, plus They Live 4K delay & more announcement news
We’ve got some more announcement news to report today, but first more reviews...
I’ve just taken a look at Warner’s The Flintstones: The Complete Series on Blu-ray. It’s a mostly solid release, though the remastering quality is a bit uneven and the extras are somewhat lacking. Yet there’s no doubt the episodes look better than ever.
Also Tim has reviewed Koji Shima’s Warning from Space (1956) on Blu-ray from Arrow Video, not to mention Edward Dein’s Curse of the Undead (1959) from Kino Lorber Studio Classics.
And Dennis has given Graham Swon’s The World Is Full of Secrets (2018) a look on Blu-ray as well, from Kino Lorber proper.
Also today, we’ve once again updated our Release Dates & Artwork section with all the latest Blu-ray, DVD, and 4K Ultra HD cover art and Amazon.com pre-order links (click here for that). And the section is finally working just fine, totally bug free. So if you’d like to help support our efforts here at the site by shopping through our links throughout the section, we’d surely appreciate it! [Read on here...]
