Blade Runner: 2049 likely due in mid-January, plus Blue Planet II on BD/4K & more

We’re kicking things off today here at The Bits with two more new Blu-ray Disc reviews, including my thoughts on Makoto Shinkai’s stunning and highly-acclaimed anime Your Name from Toho and FUNimation, as well as Sting: Live at the Olympia Paris, a great new concert film from Eagle Vision. I think you’ll find both well worth a look.

In release news today, industry and retail sources are telling us to expect Denis Villeneuve’s Blade Runner: 2049 to street on Blu-ray, Blu-ray 3D, DVD, and 4K Ultra HD on 1/16/18 from Warner Bros. Home Entertainment. Keep in mind, this title is not officially announced yet, but we expect official word from the studio very soon. [Read on here…]

In official announcement news today, BBC Home Entertainment has finally set Blue Planet II for release on Blu-ray, DVD, and 4K Ultra HD in the States on 3/6 (click here for the Amazon pre-order link). The series is narrated by David Attenborough. This one promises to be a dazzler in both HD and 4K. We’ve updated our handy 4K Ultra HD Release List accordingly.

Scream Factory has announced that they’re producing more John Carpenter Steelbook editions on 3/27/18 (limited to 10,000 units each) including Prince of Darkness and Assault on Precinct 13.

Scream has also just announced two more new horror Blu-ray titles for release in early 2018, including Amando de Ossorio’s Fangs of the Living Dead (1969) on 3/6 and Luca Bercovici’s Rockula (1990) on 3/20. This is in addition to the titles announced just yesterday.

Meanwhile, Kino Lorber has just set Baby: Secret of the Lost Legend (1985) and V.I. Warshawski (1991) for Blu-ray release on 3/13. For Scorpion Releasing, Kino is releasing Grizzly (1976) and Where the Boys Are ’84 (1984) on Blu-ray on 2/6. Also coming on 2/6 from Kino are new Blu-ray editions of The Aviator (1985), The Wilby Consipracy (1975), Sinbad of the Seven Seas (1989), and The Way West (1967). And Kino will release The Master: The Complete TV Series on Blu-ray on 2/20. The company has also just announced its intention to release Ray Milland’s western A Man Alone (1955), mastered from a new 4K scan by Paramount.

Paramount is releasing an 8-disc Friday the 13th: The Ultimate Collection box set containing films 1-8 on Blu-ray for just $31.99.

Lionsgate will release 24 Hours to Live, starring Ethan Hawke, on Blu-ray and DVD on 2/6.

And Universal will release Thank You for Your Service on Blu-ray and DVD on 1/23/18.
