We’re closing out our last full week of the Hell Plaza Oktoberfest with Dr. Jahnke’s review of John Carpenter’s Body Bags: Collector’s Edition from Scream Factory.  Just four more reviews to go, but Jahnke’s saving a couple real gems for last.

Also today, we’ve posted our in-depth review of a true classic and a very long awaited Blu-ray release: Warner’s The Right Stuff: 30th Anniversary Edition.  Not only is this a great film, but it’s a bit of smart satire that’s also deeply admiring of those the men – test pilots and astronauts alike – who exemplify the film’s title.  And the Blu-ray looks and sounds pretty terrific, so don’t miss it.  [Read on here...]

Over on The Bits Facebook page today, we’re giving away a copy of Anchor Bay’s Halloween: 35th Anniversary Edition on Blu-ray.  The giveaway runs until 3:30 PM Pacific, so be sure to head on over there for your chance to win.

In announcement news today, Warner Home Video has announced a Death Wish: 40th Anniversary Edition for Blu-ray release on 2/4/14 (SRP $19.98) – a title from the Paramount catalog.

Warner has also set Family Matters: The Complete Fourth Season for DVD only release on 2/4/14 (SRP $29.98).

Image Entertainment is releasing the Never Sleep Again: The Elm Street Legacy documentary on Blu-ray on 1/21/14 (SRP $29.98) – somewhat odd timing but we’ll take it.

Fox will release Archer: The Complete Season Four on Blu-ray and DVD on 1/7.

Scream Factory has just announced the double-feature Blu-ray/DVD Combo release of The Beast of Hollow Mountain and The Neanderthal Man on 1/28/14 (SRP $26.99).

Meanwhile, Shout! Factory will release the Japanese animated Danguard Ace: The Movie Collection on DVD only on 11/19.

Lionsgate has set Duck Dynasty: Season Four for release on Blu-ray and DVD on 1/7.

Lionsgate has also set the horror film You’re Next for release on both formats on 1/14.

Cohen Media Group has set Ziad Doueiri’s anti-war film The Attack for release on both formats on 11/12 (SRP $29.98 and $24.98).

Dialblo Cody’s Paradise arrives on Blu-ray and DVD on 11/12 from Image and RLJ Entertainment.

And Kino Lorber has set Eric Valli’s Himalaya for release on Blu-ray and DVD on 12/31.

In other news today, we’ve got a couple of fun things for you Star Wars fans that you may have missed in the last couple days.  First, it’s been announced that director J.J. Abrams and Empire Strikes Back screenwriter Lawrence Kasdan have taken over the writing duties on the forthcoming Star Wars: Episode VII.  That should at least review many older fans that the filmmakers are making an effort to return the Star Wars franchise back to its roots.  More here.

Also – and this is really cool – it seems that someone found a long lost Edit Droid laserdisc from the post production of Return of the Jedi that includes previously unseen footage!  There’s a Facebook site that’s been set up to showcase some of the material and it’s well worth checking out if you’re a fan of these films.  Pretty damn neat.

Here’s a look at the Blu-ray Disc cover artwork for Warner’s Death Wish, Kino’s Himalaya and final/revised art for CBS’ Star Trek: Enterprise – Season Three (due 1/7 – T’Pol’s image has been updated among other things)...

Death Wish: 40th Anniversary Edition (Blu-ray Disc)    Himalaya (Blu-ray Disc)    Star Trek: Enterprise - The Complete Third Season (Blu-ray Disc)

And that’s it for this week.  We’ll be back on Monday with more Blu-ray and DVD reviews, the start of our Oktoberfest finale, more great Factory Entertainment prop replica giveaways and all the usual news and views too.  Have a fine weekend and we’ll see you then!
