Star Trek Beyond now looks set for 11/1, plus Better Call Saul: Season 2, new Vestron & Twilight's October slate

by

Afternoon, folks. Hope you had a fine weekend. I’m been busy working on new Blu-ray and 4K reviews, the first of which I’m pleased to offer you now...

Here are my thoughts on Universal’s new Frankenstein: Complete Legacy Collection and The Wolf Man: Complete Legacy Collection, which streeted last week and are now available. Both are good upgrades of the previous DVD box sets of the same name, but the value proposition for each is a little complicated. I should note that in order to review these sets, I had to purchase them at my own expense. Universal chose not to make them available for review. Meanwhile, I’m working on additional reviews for posting later and tomorrow, so stay tuned for those.  [Read on here…]

The big news today is that Amazon.com has now listed Paramount’s Star Trek: Beyond for release on Blu-ray Combo ($24.99), Blu-ray 3D Combo ($29.99), DVD ($19.99), and 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray ($29.99) formats on 11/1. Amazon also has a retail-exclusive version of the 4K Ultra HD Combo that comes packaged with the Blu-ray 3D disc a miniature replica of the USS Franklin ($49.99). Click on the title links provided to pre-order. The British Board of Film Classification has also approved the bonus disc content for the set, listing it as running about 55 minutes (see here). We expect the official title announcement to be made by Paramount over the next few days.

In other news today, Sony has set Better Call Saul: Season Two for Blu-ray and DVD release on 11/15. Both versions will include audio commentaries for all 10 episodes, a gag reel, video of the Switch Table Read, and 2 featurettes (Settling the Score: Original Music by Composer Dave Porter and Building the Shot). To this, the Blu-ray will exclusively add 5 additional featurettes (Jimmy and Kim: A Complicated Relationship, The Takedown, In Conversation: Jonathan Banks & Mark Margolis, Constructing Davis & Main, and Landing FIFI), something called HSC: Beaches ’n’ Peaches, and 4 in-universe TV spots (Davis & Main Mesothelioma, Who Stole My Nest Egg?!, Davis & Main Sandpiper, and Your the Greatest! [sic]).

Lionsgate has announced that their next two Vestron Video Collector’s Series Blu-rays will include Return of the Living Dead 3 and C.H.U.D. II: Bud the Chud. Both are due in November.

Kino Lorber has announced that they’re working on new Blu-ray and DVD editions of Joseph H. Lewis’ Invisible Ghost (1941) – street date TBA. They’ve also set Doomwatch (1972) for release on both formats on 12/6.

Anchor Bay, The Weinstein Company, and RADiUS/TWC have set Wild Oats for release on DVD and digital on 10/4.

Our friends at The Criterion Collection have adjusted the street date for the Blu-ray and DVD release of Ermanno Olmi’s The Tree of Wooden Clogs from its original 10/25 to 2/14/17. Adjust your plans accordingly.

And finally today, we’ve saved the best for last: Twilight Time has just released the final extras and cover artwork for their October slate of limited edition Blu-ray titles, all due on 10/11. They’ll include:
