Extras that carry over from previous releases include audio commentary with Coppola, a cast commentary (with Matt Dillon, C. Thomas Howell, Diane Lane, Rob Lowe, Ralph Macchio and Patrick Swayze), 3 featurettes (Staying Gold: A look Back at The Outsiders, S.E. Hinton on Location in Tulsa, and The Casting of The Outsiders), NBC’s News Today from 1983: The Outsiders Started by School Petition, and deleted and extended scenes.
Also today, Universal Pictures Home Entertainment and Blumhouse have just set Everardo Valerio Gout’s next installment in The Purge franchise, The Forever Purge, for release on Blu-ray, DVD, and 4K Ultra HD on 9/28. The Digital release is expected on 9/14. Extras will include an alternate storyboard opening, deleted scenes, the film’s trailer, and 2 featurettes (Collapsing the System: Behind The Forever Purge and Creeptastic Wardrobe). Audio will be Dolby Atmos, with HDR10 high dynamic range.
Universal has also just officially set The Boss Baby: Family Business for release on Blu-ray, DVD, and 4K Ultra HD on 9/14, with the Digital release expected on 8/31. Extras will include an animated short, a gag reel, a deleted scenes, lots of featurettes, and audio commentary with director Tom McGrath, producer Jeff Hermann, and production designer Raymond Zibach. The 4K disc will include both HDR10 and Dolby Vision, with audio in Dolby Atmos.
One last 4K note today: Sony Pictures Home Entertainment has moved the street date for its Columbia Classics 4K Ultra HD Collection: Volume 2 box set to 9/28 (from its originally announced date of 9/14). Adjust your plans accordingly.
In regular news, RLJE Films has set Violation for release on Blu-ray and Digital on 9/21. The Power is also expected to street that same day on DVD and Digital only. The company has also set Eli Roth’s History of Horror: Season 2 for release on Blu-ray and DVD on 9/14.
And here’s something cool for horror fans: Severin Films has announced a terrific new boxed set compendium of “folk horror” filmmaking from around the world entitled All the Haunts Be Ours for release on 12/7. It’s a 15-disc set that will include a whopping 20 films on 12 Blu-rays, plus 3 CDs, a 126-page book, and 15+ hours of additional short films, featurettes, commentaries, and more. Among the feature films included will be Woodlands Dark and Days Bewitched (2021), Eyes of Fire (1983), Leptirica (1973), Witchhammer (1970), Viy (1967), Lake of the Dead (1958), Tilbury (1987), The Dreaming (1988), Kadaicha (1988), Celia (1989), Alison’s Birthday (1981), Wilczyca (1983), Lokis: A Manuscript of Professor Wittembach (1970), Clearcut (1991), Il Demonio (1963), Dark Waters (1993), A Field in England (2012), Anchoress (1993), Penda’s Fen (1974), and Robin Redbreast (1970). Finally today, we need to take a moment to acknowledge the passing of a music legend... Rolling Stones drummer Charlie Watts, who died today in a London hospital at the age of 80. You can read more here via The New York Times. There will be an endless number of great retrospectives for Charlie published in the coming days, as well there should be. I’ll just say that, for me, Charlie’s steady snare drum helped to define the rock and roll sound for an entire generation. And what a legacy that is. I find myself without the right words to mark his passing today, so I’ll leave you instead with one of his best recordings with the Stones. (And what a track is it too.) Thanks, Charlie. You’ll be missed.
