Today’s post is a quick one as I’m working hard to finish this review of Studio Canal UK’s version of Flash Gordon (1980) on 4K Ultra HD.

The set is spectacular. More on that soon.

Don’t forget, we posted our review of Arrow Video’s version of Flash Gordon (1980) in 4K Ultra HD on Friday.

Note that we also hope to have a review of Arrow’s new Pitch Black 4K Ultra HD sometime later this week as well, so be sure to watch for that.

In the meantime, we have more great 4K news for you today...

Our friends at Kino Lorber Studio Classics have just revealed that they’re going to be releasing Michel Gondry’s Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind (2004) on 4K Ultra HD sometime in 2021, licensed from Focus Features—a great sign that more deep catalog Focus titles may be coming to the format as well. But here’s the best news: Kino has also just announced the 11/24 release of George Miller’s original Mad Max (1979) on 4K Ultra HD, with Dolby Vision HDR! Additional details will be announced at a later date, but it appears that the remastered film will also be released on Blu-ray that same day. You can see the cover artwork above left and also below.

Also today, here’s a nice surprise: Producer Arnold Leibovit has just announced that The Puppetoon Movie: Volume 2 is coming to Blu-ray in December (SRP $39.95), featuring more animated shorts from George Pal. Among them will be Dipsy Gypsy (1940), Radio Valve Revolution (1934), Ali Baba and the Forty Thieves (1935), A Hatful of Dreams (1944), Rescue Brigade (1937), In Lamp Light Land (1935), Jasper and the Choo-Choo (1942), Love on the Range (1938), The Gay Knighties (1941), Two Gun Rusty (1944), How an Advertising Poster Came About (1938), Jasper Goes Hunting (1944), Sky Pirates (1938), Jasper’s Close Shave (1945), The Ship of the Ether (1934), Good Night Rusty (1943), Wilbur the Lion (1946), and Jasper Tell (1944), plus additional extras. You can pre-order it here at Puppetoon.net! And here’s a trailer for the release...

Also, Lionsgate has set The Silencing for release on Blu-ray and DVD on 9/29.

Paramount will release The Haunting as a Paramount Presents title on Blu-ray on 10/20, featuring a behind-the-scenes featurette, two trailers, and a new Filmmaker Focus with Director Jan de Bont.

Finally today, Paramount has also set a Steelbook release of their It’s a Wonderful Life 4K Ultra HD for release on 11/3.

Watch for Flash later this afternoon or this evening. Stay tuned...
