All right, we’ve got a rare Saturday update for you, as there’s some major news to let you all know about since yesterday’s post…

First up, Criterion has announced their October slate of Blu-ray releases, which is set to include the Trilogía de Guillermo del Toro set (Cronos, The Devil’s Backbone, and Pan’s Labyrinth) and Pan’s Labyrinth separately (Cat #838 - Blu-ray and DVD) on 10/11, Richard Linklater’s Boyhood (Cat #839 - Blu-ray and DVD) and Robert Altman’s Short Cuts (Cat #265 - Blu-ray and DVD) on 10/18, and Ermanno Olmi’s The Tree of Wooden Clogs (Cat #840 - Blu-ray and DVD) and Luis García Berlanga’s The Executioner (Cat #841 - Blu-ray and DVD) on 10/25. Note that Criterion is also working on a Blu-ray box set of Linklater’s “Before” Trilogy (Before Sunrise, Before Sunset, and Before Midnight) for release at a later date.  [Read on here…]

Meanwhile, Universal has announced two great new Universal Monster Blu-ray collections for release on 9/13 (SRP $39.98 each), including the Frankenstein: Complete Legacy Collection and The Wolf Man: Complete Legacy Collection. The first includes Frankenstein (1931), The Bride of Frankenstein (1935), Son of Frankenstein (1939), The Ghost of Frankenstein (1942), Frankenstein Meets the Wolf Man (1943), House of Frankenstein (1944), House of Dracula (1945), and Abbott and Costello Meet Frankenstein (1948). The second includes The Wolfman (1941), Frankenstein Meets the Wolf Man (1943), House of Frankenstein (1944), House of Dracula (1945), Abbott and Costello Meet Frankenstein (1948), Werewolf of London (1935), and She-Wolf of London (1946).

File this in the category of rumor, but word coming out of Star Wars Celebration in London is that Disney and Lucasfilm may be preparing a new Star Wars Blu-ray box set, planned for release in time for the holidays, that includes Episodes IV, V, VI, and VII. And VII will include the long-awaited Blu-ray 3D version. We’ll post any official details as they arrive.

By the way, obviously the new trailer didn’t actually appear on The Secrets of The Force Awakens last night. It was shown at Celebration, so we do expect it to arrive soon online.

Finally today, StudioCanal has announced that they’ve completed a new 4K restoration of Nicolas Roeg’s The Man Who Fell to Earth, starring David Bowie, and they plan to bring it back to theaters in honor of the film’s 40th Anniversary on 9/9. The restoration will also be released on BD later this year, at least in the UK (Lionsgate owns the US rights we believe). You can read more here at Variety.

That’s all for now. See you on Monday!
