Sony, as it happens, has also announced Community: The Complete Fifth Season for DVD only release on 8/5. Extras will include audio commentary on every episode, outtakes, and 2 featurettes (Re-Animating the ‘80s and Advanced Television Production: 5 Days, 2 Scripts, No Sleep).
The biggest piece of news today is that Paramount has officially set Darren Aronofsky’s Noah for Blu-ray Combo release on 7/29, with a digital only release due on 7/15. Extras will include 3 featurettes (Iceland: Extreme Beauty, The Ark Exterior: A Battle for 300 Cubits, and The Ark Interior: Animals Two by Two).
Universal has set The Flintstones for BD release on 8/19 (looks like all the DVD extras carry over).
Warner Home Video has set two more Paramount catalog titles for Blu-ray release in September (on 9/16) including The Nutty Professor: 50th Anniversary and Congo.
And here’s a little nugget for you classic Sherlock Holmes fans: To follow up on their excellent The Complete Sherlock Holmes Collection of Basil Rathbone films on Blu-ray, MPI is working to release the complete The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes series of ITV-produced TV films from the 1980s (41 episodes in all), starring Jeremy Brett as the title character. Watch for that to be announced soon.
Also here at the site today, our own Russell Hammond has posted the weekly update of the Release Dates & Artwork section featuring all the latest Blu-ray and DVD cover artwork, as well as Amazon.com pre-order links (and thank you for supporting us by ordering through them)!
And finally, Dr. Jahnke has checked in with his latest edition of his Burnt Offerings: MOD DVD column covering this week’s latest small-batch, homegrown and otherwise handcrafted deep catalog DVD and Blu-ray releases from the likes of the Warner Archive, the Universal Vault Series, and the 20th Century Fox Cinema Archives. There are quite a lot of notable titles in this week’s column, so you definitely don’t want to miss it this week!
Here’s a look at the BD artwork for Sony’s Jodorowsky’s Dune, Paramount’s Noah and Disney’s Need for Speed (due 8/5 according to retail sources)...
