Meanwhile, Kino Lorber Studio Classics has revealed that John Frankenheimer’s Ronin (1998) will officially arrive on 4K Ultra HD on 6/20, with a new scan of the original camera negative and Dolby Vision HDR. Extras will include the legacy commentary with the director, along with nearly all of the previous DVD special features. You can see the cover artwork below.
KLSC has also revealed that they’re working on new Blu-ray editions of Bruce Malmuth’s The Man Who Wasn’t There (1983) and Philip Kaufman’s The White Dawn (1974). The former will include both Blu-ray 3-D polarized and anaglyphic (red/cyan) 3-D versions (with a pair of 3-D glasses too). Both titles are listed as “coming soon,” with the exact street date to be announced at a later date.
Sony has just set Scott Beck and Bryan Woods’ 65 (2023) for release on Blu-ray, DVD, and 4K Ultra HD on 5/30.
NBC’s The Event: The Complete Series is now available for pre-order on Amazon (from Universal via Mill Creek Entertainment) with a street date of 6/6. You can see the cover art below.
Universal seems to be targeting 6/6 as the street date for The Super Mario Bros. Movie (2023) on Blu-ray, DVD, and 4K Ultra HD, at least according to retail sources.
Also per retail sources, it appears that the street date for Chad Stahelski’s John Wick: Chapter 4 (2023) from Lionsgate will be 6/13. Watch for an official announcement in the coming weeks.
In other release news today, Warner Bros. Home Entertainment has set Zach Braff’s A Good Person for Blu-ray and DVD release on 5/30.
Synapse Films will release James Glickenhaus’ McBain (1991) on Blu-ray on 7/11.
The BFI is releasing Peter Greenaway’s The Draughtsman’s Contract (1982) on Blu-ray on 6/13, followed by A Zed & Two Noughts and The Falls: Two Films by Peter Greenaway on Blu-ray on 6/20.
And Cult Epics has announced that they’re working on new 4K Ultra HD editions of Tinto Brass’ classic Italian sex comedies All Ladies Do It (1993) and Frivolous Lola (1998) for release sometime near the end of the year. The company is also running an Indiegogo campaign to produce a new hardcover book to go with the UHDs entitled The Films of Tinto Brass. Finally today, our friends at Media Play News have announced the winners of the 2023 Home Entertainment Media Play Awards, for which I was once again honored to serve as a judge.
Paramount’s The Godfather Trilogy 50 Years Collector’s Edition took home the honors for Title of the Year, Best Movie Boxed Set, and Best Restoration. Paramount’s Top Gun: Maverick also won for Fan-Favorite Title of the Year, Best New Movie on Disc, Best 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray Disc, and Best Audio/Visual Quality. In addition, Sony’s Better Call Saul: The Complete Series won TV on Disc of the Year, while Warner’s House of the Dragon: Season One won Best Recent TV Season on Disc.
