All right, I’m back from WonderCon in Anaheim and regrouping here at The Bits. The Everyone’s a Critic: Being a Journalist in the Online Age panel that I participated in on Friday afternoon went well. We had a nice turnout and a lively discussion. I’ll post a few pictures below.

Obviously, tomorrow sees the Blu-ray release of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. I expect to have my in-depth review posted here as soon as possible tomorrow, probably early afternoon. So be sure to watch for that.

In news today, 20th Century Fox is holding an Alien Day celebration on 4/26, featuring 24 hours of all things Alien in celebration of the 5/10 theatrical release of Ridley Scott’s Alien: Covenant. There will be a live stream broadcast starting at 10 AM Pacific, a global screening event at Regal RPX Cinemas of Alien and Prometheus, trivia challenges, fan art contests, and more. Visit the AlienUniverse.com website for all the details. [Read on here…]

On the announcement side of things, Sony Pictures Home Entertainment is releasing The Amazing Spider-Man and The Amazing Spider-Man 2 on 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray on 6/13. It appears they’ll come as a double feature set for SRP $65.99. A number of you  have asked when Sony will announce The Bridge on the River Kwai in 4K. As it happens, the studio is holding a 60th anniversary screening of the film at the TCM Festival later this week. It’s likely they’ll announce the 4K release (due later this year) then.

Meanwhile, Universal is releasing a Fahrenheit 451: 50th Anniversary Edition on Blu-ray on 6/6 (SRP $14.98). Also coming to Blu-ray that day is Major Payne. And the studio’s The Bourne Ultimate Collection in 4K Ultra HD goes into wide release on 6/6 as well (SRP $129.98). It was previously exclusive to Best Buy stores.

Paramount seems to have gotten their catalog rights back from Warner, as they’ve set the western Shane for release on Blu-ray on 5/23 (SRP $14.99), along with Congo and War & Peace. New catalog releases of Chinatown, The Godfather films, and The Untouchables are coming as well on 5/9.

Troma is releasing the documentaries Fuzz: The Sound that Changed the World and VHS Massacre on Blu-ray on 5/9 as well.

Kino Lorber has revealed that it’s working on new Blu-ray and DVD editions of The Whales of August (1987), Funny Bones (1995), and Portrait of Jennie (1948).

And Scream Factory has set Windows (1980) for Blu-ray release on 4/4.

Here’s a look at a few pictures from the WonderCon panel. L to R below are Bill Watters, Mary Anne Butler, Alexandra August, me (Bill Hunt), and Thomas Parham.
