We’ve got three new disc reviews for you this morning to start the week off right...

Stephen has taken a look at the wide Amaray release of Paul W.S. Anderson’s Event Horizon (1997) in 4K Ultra HD, as well as Adam and Aaron Nee’s The Lost City (2022) in 4K Ultra HD, both from Paramount.

And I’ve reviewed Matthew Robbins’ long-awaited Dragonslayer (1983) in 4K Ultra HD Steelbook from Paramount as well. This is a terrific remaster that’s also now available in Blu-ray format, so fans of the film should be very pleased.

More reviews are forthcoming, as always, so be sure to stay tuned for them.

Now then, we’ve got a few good things to report here at The Bits today, in terms of new and catalog title release news...

First, Umbrella Entertainment is taking pre-orders on a new Blu-ray Limited Collector’s Edition of the 1967 Rankin/Bass classic Mad Monster Party. [Read on here...]

Expected to arrive in May (and only available from their website here), the disc will feature a newly color-corrected master in the proper 1.85 aspect ratio (as well as an alternate 1.33 version), a new audio commentary and introduction by historian Rick Goldschmidt, an Easter egg, and a Rankin/Bass trailer collection. The package will also carry over previous extras, including 4 featurettes (Making of a Cult Classic, It’s Sheer Animagic!, Groovy Ghouls! The Music of Mad Monster Party, and Unearthing a Classic), sing-alongs, a gallery, and the trailer. What’s more, the package will include custom slipcase artwork, a replica 1967 comic book, an A3 size poster, and a sticker sheet. You can see the cover artwork above left.

Meanwhile, Kino Lorber Studio Classics has set Dave Thomas’ The Experts (1989) for Blu-ray release on 5/9, followed by Robert Aldrich’s Hustle (1975) on 5/16, and Henry Koster’s My Man Godfrey (1957) and Rene Clement’s Joy House (1964) on 5/23. They’ve also revealed that Elia Kazan’s The Last Tycoon (1976), Alan J. Pakula’s Starting Over (1979), and David Steinberg’s Paternity (1981) are coming soon to Blu-ray. And expected in June is their Audie Murphy Collection II, which will include Sierra (1950), Kansas Raiders (1950), and Destry (1954).

For you 4K Ultra HD fans, we have a bunch of new pre-orders up today on Amazon, including John Wick: Chapter 4, The Nutty Professor (1963) Paramount Presents, and the Amaray wide-release versions of Clear and Present Danger and all four Indiana Jones films. You can find the covers and links for all of them below.

Not to be outdone, Vinegar Syndrome just officially revealed three new 4K UHD titles, including Paul Verhoeven’s Showgirls (1995), Lamberto Bava’s A Blade in the Dark (1983), and Ulli Lommel’s The Boogie Man (1980). The street date for all three is expected to be sometime in May between the 26th and 29th. You can find those on their website here.

Note that we’ve updated our 4K Ultra HD Release List here at The Bits with all of these titles accordingly.

And finally this morning, Lakeshore Records has just announced a limited edition vinyl release of the Star Trek: Picard – Season 3 soundtrack by Stephen Barton and Frederik Wiedmann. It’s already sold out on the actual Lakeshore Records website, but you can also pre-order it here on Amazon.com right now (click here or on the cover art below, and we would recommend acting fast as it will likely sell fast on Amazon as well). Street date is 5/12...

Star Trek: Picard - Season 3 (Vinyl Soundtrack LP)

Note that you can also now pre-order the soundtrack in 24-bit lossless Digital download on Qobuz (which is how Picard: Season 3 music mixer/recording engineer Phil McGowan would prefer you to hear it, per this post on Twitter).

We’ll leave you today with a look at the cover artwork for those new Amazon 4K titles mentioned above. Just click on the covers to pre-order them, and remember that a portion of anything you order from Amazon after heading over there though one of our links goes to help support our work here at The Bits and we really appreciate it!
