New Rogue One date, Sing official, Trainspotting 2 4K in the UK, Ocean Waves & classic catalog BD news

All right, today is a work holiday for many here in the U.S., but we do have some interesting new release news for you all regardless.

First up, new signals from retail sources (including Walmart, Target, Best Buy, and others) are suggesting that Disney and Lucasfilm are planning to release Rogue One: A Star Wars Story on Blu-ray, Blu-ray 3D, and DVD on 4/4, instead of the date previously listed by retailers which was 3/28. Until this weekend, Best Buy was taking pre-orders with no date listed, but that’s now been pulled, suggesting that an official announcement may be coming any day. Stay tuned for official details.

Speaking of Disney, the studio has confirmed that it’s currently working on new Walt Disney Signature Edition Blu-ray releases of Fantasia and Bambi. The latter film has been out of print on Blu-ray here in the States for a number of years now, so that’s certainly good news for fans. You can learn a bit more here. [Read on here…]

We also now have a confirmed street date for Universal’s CG-animated Sing: Look for the film to be released on Blu-ray and DVD on 3/21. You can pre-order it on Amazon.com now at this link.

While we’re talking Universal, as we mentioned last week, the studio is releasing Studio Ghibli’s Ocean Waves (a.k.a. I Can Hear the Sea) on Blu-ray Disc on 4/18. You can see the cover artwork below. It was made for Japanese TV made back in 1993, but it’s finally been scanned in HD and released on Blu-ray in Japan.

In 4K news, our old friend Simon Brew, from the excellent Den of Geek website, has recently let us know that Danny Boyle’s Trainspotting 2 has been listed for pre-order on 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray format by various UK retailers (including this one). There’s no street listed date yet.

Back here in the States, we’ve learned that The Film Detective has set their restored The Vampire Bat: Special Edition (1933) for Blu-ray release on 4/25. The company has also set The Hollywood Tough Guys Collection for Blu-ray release on 3/28, set to include the classics Patterns (1956 – directed by Fielder Cook and starring Van Heflin), Beat the Devil (1953 – directed by John Huston and starring Humphrey Bogart), and Suddenly! (1954 – directed by Lewis Allen and starring Frank Sinatra).

In other classic release news, The Warner Archive has set World Without End (1956) for release on Blu-ray on 3/28.

Classic Flix is releasing the Shirley Temple film Miss Annie Rooney (1942) on Blu-ray on 4/4. They also have the Bette Davis film Another Man’s Poison (1951) due on Blu-ray on 3/28.

Also, Severin Films has set Cathy’s Curse for release on Blu-ray on 4/11.

And finally, Mill Creek Entertainment has set a Psycho Circus: Triple Feature for Blu-ray release on 4/4, including Brotherhood of Satan, Torture Garden, and The Creeping Flesh. Also coming that day from the company are Little Nikita, Punchline, and a Triple Feature of Wind Chill, Closure, and Perfect Stranger.
