Not only is that a fine slate, here’s what’s particularly interesting: Army of Shadows is a Studio Canal title. If Criterion is finally working with Studio Canal again, that potentially paves the way for them to release their long-delayed Blu-ray of Akira Kurosawa’s Ran.
While we’re talking Criterion, Janus Films has announced that they’re running a series of The World of Wong Kar-wai film screenings at Film at Lincoln Center in New York City in June, staring on 6/5. The filmmaker has recently completed new 4K restorations of his entire catalog, and it’s likely that these will find their way to Blu-ray in a new Wong Kar-wai box set. Also recently teased by Criterion for Blu-ray release in 2020 are new collections of the films of Federico Fellini, Agnès Varda, and Bruce Lee.
Meanwhile, you can see the cover artwork for the just-announced titles below (and we’ll add Amazon.com pre-order links as they become available)...
