Arsene Lupin Double Feature (1932-38) – The legendary gentleman jewel thief makes his talking picture debut in 1932’s Arsene Lupin. John and Lionel Barrymore team up for this sophisticated Parisian mystery. Melvyn Douglas takes over in the 1938 sequel, Arsene Lupin Returns, with Lupin coming out of retirement to catch a copycat thief. Lupin is a fun character that really deserves to be better known. I’m looking forward to checking out these early screen adventures.
Slander (1957) – Van Johnson stars as a wholesome TV star whose career is put in jeopardy when a gossip rag dredges up his past. Directed by Roy Rowland, this sounds like a pretty entertaining B-noir look at the TMZ of the 50s.
The Counterfeit Plan (1957) – Zachary Scott plays an escaped murderer who tracks down his former partner-in-crime (Mervyn Johns) and forces him back to the wrong side of the law. Montgomery Tully directs this UK-set thriller.
Chase A Crooked Shadow (1958) – Anne Baxter is reunited with a man claiming to be her brother. Only trouble is her brother supposedly died six years earlier. Michael Anderson directs this British mystery also starring Richard Todd and Herbert Lom.
Claudelle Inglish (1961) – Erskine Caldwell’s Southern-fried melodrama comes to the screen courtesy of director Gordon Douglas. Diane McBain stars as Claudelle, a young girl led astray into a world of sex and sin. Steamy!
The Crooked Road (1965) – Robert Ryan plays a hard-boiled reporter who travels to Central Europe to expose dictator Stewart Granger. Don Chaffey directs this Cold War thriller.
Sugarfoot: The Complete Third Season (1959-60) – Will Hutchins returns as peace-loving law student Tom Brewster in the penultimate season of the cult TV Western. Look for Adam West as Doc Holliday, Connie Stevens, Louise Fletcher and two episodes directed by a young maverick named Robert Altman.
