Lincoln Lawyer 4K, T2 3D on disc later this year, Prometheus & Alien: Covenant pre-orders & more
All right, I believe we promised some new disc reviews for you today. So here’s my thoughts on 20th Century Fox’s Logan and Lionsgate’s Dredd in 4K Ultra HD, as well as Tim’s thoughts on Never Too Young to Die on Blu-ray from Shout! Factory.
We’ll have a couple more for you tomorrow, including Ex Machina in 4K. Logan and Dredd are worth your time, as movies and also as great A/V experiences. Logan shines in full 4K and Dredd is a 2K upsample, but really dazzles with HDR. Do give them a look. [Read on here…]

AACS 2.0 encryption may be cracked, plus Song to Song set for 4K & Sony reveals its 1st Dolby Vision title
Well, it appears that AACS 2.0 encryption used in 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray releases may have been broken by digital pirates. The first torrent ripped from a UHD disc has appeared online in the past week. It’s Sony’s The Smurfs 2 of all things. You can read more here on PC Magazine. The file is a whopping 53GB in size, however, so I’m not sure who would ever want to download such a thing. Still, it’s interesting news nonetheless.
Also today, we’ve learned that Resident Evil: Vendetta, which was recently announced by Sony Pictures Home Entertainment for release on Blu-ray, DVD, and 4K Ultra HD on 7/18, will be the studio’s first 4K title to feature Dolby Vision HDR. [Read on here…]

Re-Animator, Prison Break, Mission Control, Heat: Director’s Cut for just $8 & Jonathan Demme RIP
We have a couple items to report today…
First, a quick note: I’ve updated our post from yesterday (regarding the interview with Kathleen Kennedy on Star Wars) to more accurately reflect the context of her comments. It’s worth giving another look, if you’re interested. Just FYI.
Here at the site today, Tim Salmons has posted reviews of Arrow Video’s House: Two Stories and House: The Collection Blu-ray box sets. One is a U.S. release while the other is a U.K. release (but it plays in both Region A and B). The sets are pretty terrific if you’re a fan, so do give them a look. [Read on here…]

Lost City of Z, new Twilight & Arrow BDs, Inside Cinema on Wonder Woman & Kathleen Kennedy on Star Wars
All right, as I work to finish these hardware reviews we’ve some good things for you today here at the site...
First, Tim has posted three new disc reviews, including looks at Synapse Films’ Popcorn Steelbook Blu-ray, Scream Factory’s Slumber Party Massacre II/III Double Feature Blu-ray, and Shout! Factory’s new Mystery Science Theater 3000: Volume XXXVIII DVD set. All are worth a look, so do check them out.
Also today, our own Mario Boucher has turned in a new Inside Cinema report on Warner Bros’ recent Wonder Woman panel from the WonderCon 2017 convention here in Anaheim. Both producer Geoff Johns and director Patty Jenkins were on hand to discuss the making of the film and it sounds as if it’s shaping up nicely. The film arrives in theaters on 6/2. [Read on here…]

The Last Jedi teaser trailer is finally here, plus Streets of Fire details from Shout! Factory & more
All right, we’re closing out the week here at The Bits with a bit of fun…
First up, Tim has just posted a new Pick-Ups review of MGM’s 2009 Blu-ray release of The Silence of the Lambs. You can read that here.
Of course, we have a little more announcement news today too...
Shout! Factory has revealed the extras you’ll get on their Streets of Fire: Collector’s Edition on 5/16, the latest entry in their Shout Selects line of titles. Look for a new 2K scan of the interpositive on Disc One, and then on Disc Two you’ll get the all-new The Making of Streets of Fire documentary, along with Rumble on the Lot: Walter Hill’s Streets of Fire Revisited, 4 vintage featurettes (Rock and Roll Fable, Exaggerated Realism, Choreographing the Crowd, Creating the Costumes, and From the Ground Up), music videos, on-air promos, a still gallery, and the theatrical trailer. Pick-Ups for the Week of April 10, 2017
Welcome to a new edition of Pick-Ups!
I have returned at last to resume Pick-Ups after a notable absence, mostly due to site-related issues here at The Digital Bits. We’ve been doing some server updating and site modifications around here, all very technical and complicated I can assure you.
But now that we’re back up and running, however, I can finally get back to bringing you new reviews of some titles that we’ve neglected to cover previously.
This week is going to be a mixed bag for the column, so be sure to check back each day for new reviews. [Read on here...]
Pardon Our Server Issues, Plus LOTS More 4K Titles, Sgt. Pepper, Lion in Winter, a Word on Rogue One Extras & More
All right, first things first: We had a hard drive meltdown at the server farm a couple of days ago, the upshot of which is that The Bits (and several other sites) crashed for about a day. We’re on a newly-built server now and we seem to be back up and running, but it’s likely that there’s going to be some tweaking needed to get back to full stability. So anyway, we appreciate your patience. With a little luck, full normality should be restored by Monday morning.
In the meantime, I posted my in-depth review of Disney and Lucasfilm’s Rogue One: A Star Wars Story Blu-ray on Tuesday afternoon in case you missed it. I’ll have more to say about that subject in a minute.
Also, our own Tim Salmons has posted a new Pick-Ups review of Monty Python’s The Meaning of Life: 30th Anniversary Edition on Blu-ray. And Russell Hammond has posted the weekly update of the Release Dates & Artwork section with all the latest Blu-ray, DVD, and 4K cover artwork and Amazon.com pre-order links. Don’t forget, you can now sort titles by format in 4K in addition to DVD and Blu-ray. And a portion of anything you order from Amazon, after clicking to them from our links, goes to help support our work here at The Bits and we really appreciate it. [Read on here…]
