Dailies – Indie Horror (Severin Films & Intervision Releases)
When it comes to the depths of obscurity, few companies manage to put out consistently under the radar material like Severin Films, as well as Intervision Pictures. While the former deals primarily in everything from cult horror oddities to lost exploitation classics, the latter tackles many shot-on-video features from the late 1980s and early 1990s. Although both companies also occasionally do contemporary titles, little known and underappreciated cinema is their bread and butter. Some of each company’s most notable releases include Bloody Moon, Hardware, BMX Bandits, Santa Sangre, The Other Hell, Cathy’s Curse, Things, Murderlust, Phobe, and Sledgehammer, just to name a few.
Today, I’m going to cover some of their more recent releases, but I’ll start off with one we haven’t managed to include on The Bits before. [Read on here...]

Afternoon, folks! Hope all is well with you. Today’s is just a quick post to catch up on a bunch of new disc reviews we’ve posted here at The Bits over the past several days, which is one of the reasons we haven’t had a news post lately.
As such, you can now read my thoughts on Sony’s Starship Troopers: 20th Anniversary Edition and Warner’s Wonder Woman in 4K Ultra HD, as well as Mill Creek’s Friday Night Lights: The Complete Series box set on Blu-ray.
Meanwhile, Tim has turned in his reviews of Arrow Video’s Erik the Conqueror: Special Edition, Arrow Academy’s The Big Knife: Special Edition, and also Tempe Digital’s The Dead Next Door: Collector’s Edition. [Read on here…]
Introducing our 4K Ultra HD Release List, plus a CE3K 4K unboxing video & MVD launches its Rewind Collection!
Welcome to a new week! We’ve got a couple things for you today, but first, an important announcement...
In response to reader demand, we’ve launched a new section here at The Bits. It’s our 4K Ultra HD Release List! You can read the section introduction here, and you can find the actual list here. (In the navigation bar at the top of the website, you’ll find it listed under Columns >> Bill Hunt >> The 4K Ultra HD Release List.) You can see all of the U.S. and U.K. titles currently available and also yet to be released – both announced and rumored to be in the works based on our industry sources. (Note that an International list will be added soon for Germany, Italy, France, Japan, etc.) You can also order or pre-order each title via Amazon.com and Amazon.co.uk if links are available. We’ve also tried to include codes to indicate which releases are full native 4K, which have object-based audio options, and which have Dolby Vision. And if a title is a standout or reference quality, we’ve tried to indicate that as well. We’re going through and checking all of those codes to make sure they’re accurate (if you spot errors please let us know), and of course we’ll be regularly updating the list going forward. In announcement news today, Monsieur David Lynch has, his very own bad self, announced the forthcoming Blu-ray and DVD release of Twin Peaks: The Third Season via Twitter today. Look for it on 12/5 from CBS Home Entertainment and Showtime. We expect that they’ll have cooked up some nice extras to go with that tasty slice pie, so watch for further details in the weeks ahead. You can see the cover artwork below. We’ll add the Amazon link as soon as it goes live.
Also on the TV front today, are there any Game of Thrones fans in the house? HBO has just officially set Game of Thrones: The Complete Seventh Season for release on Blu-ray and DVD on 12/12, with the Digital HD version due on 9/25. [Read on here…]

Spider-Man & Amazing Spidey in 4K, War for the Planet of the Apes 4K & South Park: Seasons 1-11 coming to Blu-ray!
Afternoon, folks. First things first, if any of you are in Florida today, please stay safe! BIG-ass hurricane coming your way, as you’re no doubt aware.
Second, we’ve got a bunch of new disc reviews for you today, including my in-depth thoughts on Steven Spielberg’s E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial: 35th Anniversary Edition in 4K Ultra HD. If you’re a fan of E.T., it’s worth the upgrade. The film has simply never looked better than it does here.
Tim also has three new Blu-ray reviews for you, including his thoughts on Marvel and Netflix’s Daredevil: The Complete First Season, Daredevil: The Complete Second Season, and Jessica Jones: The Complete First Season. And if you check back tomorrow, we should have at least one more new disc review for you this week. [Read on here…]

Big news today, Bits readers! But first, some local business...
Our very own Tim Salmons has turned in a pair of new Blu-ray reviews, featuring Carl Reiner’s comedy classic The Man with Two Brains now available on disc from the Warner Archive, and also the ooky-gooey Italian terror of Joe D’Amato’s Beyond the Darkness from Severin Films. Do give them both a look. (But if you’re barf-sensitive, the latter might be a test of your constitution. FYI.)

Force Friday II is here, plus War for the Planet of the Apes on 10/24, T2 4K delay & new BD reviews
All right, welcome to the start of the long Labor Day weekend here in the States! Sorry for the lack of a news post yesterday. We’ve been having a heat wave here in SoCal this past week, and on Wednesday my power went out no less than three times. The final occasion was 1 AM and it was out ALLLLLLLL damn night, which meant I didn’t sleep a wink. So I pretty much needed yesterday to recover. Thankfully with the air conditioning restored.
Anyway, we’ve got a couple new Blu-ray reviews for you to check out today. Tim has taken a look at Arrow’s new Steelbook release of Brian Yuzna’s Society and also the Enter the Ninja/Revenge of the Ninja: Cannon Classics Double Feature, a Region B release from the fine folks at Umbrella Entertainment. Enjoy!
Tim has also turned in a new Dailes column in which he runs down a bunch of interesting new and recent indie horror titles on Blu-ray and DVD from Uncork’d Entertainment and Wild Eye Releasing. You’ll find that here, so do give it a look. [Read on here…]

Baby Driver set for BD & 4K on 10/10, plus Game of Thrones: S7, an HDR-10+ partnership & Tobe Hooper RIP
Afternoon, folks! Welcome to a brand new week. We’ve got a couple big reviews for you today to kick things off right, plus some news...
First of all, Tim has just posted his thoughts on Kino’s new The Good, The Bad and The Ugly: 50th Anniversary Special Edition. There’s good news and bad news about it, and a complicated story to tell, but we’ve got you covered with an in-depth look and screenshots to boot. Not only that, but if you missed it when I posted it on Friday afternoon, I’ve got an in-depth review of Warner Bros. Home Entertainment’s new Blade Runner 4K Ultra HD release for you. Let me tell you, this film has never looked and sounded better, so if you’re a fan, you’re really in for a treat. Again, you’ll find all the details in our review, so do give it a look. More new disc reviews are on the way, so be sure to stay tuned. [Read on here…]

FUNimation’s “Speed-Head” Racer box, They Call Me Bruce?, Warner Archive’s Illustrated Man & Jay Thomas RIP
We’re kicking things off today with two more Blu-ray reviews: Tim’s taken a look at Dusty Nelson’s Effects (1978) and Tom Hanson’s The Zodiac Killer (1971) on disc from Synapse Films and AGFA. Sounds like both are worth a look, so enjoy the reviews. And be aware, that I’ve working on a new Blu-ray review and several more new 4K Ultra HD reviews myself, so watch for those over the next few days.
In announcement news today... FUNimation has finally set Speed Racer: The Ultimate Collection for release on Blu-ray/DVD Combo box set on 11/7. This whopping 10 Blu-ray/16 DVD box set will come in “Speed-Head” packaging and will include Speed Racer: The Complete Series (1967) on both Blu-ray and DVD, the original Japanese version of Mach GoGoGo (1967) on both Blu-ray and DVD, and also the newer Mach GoGoGo “Restart” (1997) series on DVD only. Extras will include a new interview with voice actor Connie Orr (aka Trixie) and a collectible keychain. You can see the packaging above-left and below. [Read on here…]
