All right, Tim’s just posted his thoughts on Shout!’s recent Pee-Wee’s Playhouse Christmas Special Blu-ray. And I’m making good progress on the X-Files review. Christmas has intruded on my time over the past week, but I’ve finally gotten through all the extra content on the set and so I’m getting there. I can’t stress enough what a mammoth task it is to review this set – there’s just SO much material to go through and check. But I’m working on it. Watch for it soon-ish. I will just quickly say that, given Amazon.com’s current pricing (see here), it probably makes more sense to buy the seasons individually. There’s nothing in the box that you wouldn’t get that way, other than the box itself, and you’ll pay significantly less.  [Read on here…]

Our own Russell Hammond has also posted the weekly update of the Release Dates & Artwork section with all the latest Blu-ray and DVD cover artwork and Amazon.com pre-order links. As always, whenever you order anything from Amazon after clicking to them through our links you’re helping to support our work here at The Bits and we really appreciate it.

Now then, big news: Network in the UK has just announced (via a new video on their homepage today) that they’re going to be doing a new HD restoration of UFO for release on Blu-ray in 2016, complete with newly-created special features. Just visit their website today and the video will appear automatically. Very exciting indeed. Now if Network can just lock up a US distributor for that and Space: 1999, we’d be in business. Or do a dual-region release. Thanks to Bits reader Branko Vekić for alerting me to this this morning.

Also today, Universal is finally releasing Howard the Duck on Blu-ray here in the States on 3/8, along with the catalog titles The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas, *Batteries Not Included, Along Came Polly, and Xanadu.

Anchor Bay will release Burnt, starring Bradley Cooper and Sienna Miller, on BD and DVD on 1/26.

Sony Classics and Sony Pictures Home Entertainment have set Giulio Ricciarelli’s Labyrinth of Lies for BD release on 2/15. They also have Truth coming to both formats on 2/2.

Mill Creek Entertainment has set a Jean-Claude Van Damme: 5 Movie Pack for BD release on 3/15 (not sure what it includes yet). Also coming that day on BD are Just Visiting, My Boyfriend’s Back, Swing Vote, and a Spring Break Double Feature of Private Resort and Hardbodies.

Visual Entertainment has set Gordon Ramsay: Hell’s Kitchen 14 for BD release on 3/15.

Dark Sky Films has set Convergence for BD and DVD release on 2/9.

And Cinedigm has set The Keeping Room for BD and DVD on 2/2.

We’re getting conflicting reports about a possible street date for Disney’s Star Wars: The Force Awakens on Blu-ray, with some retailers showing April dates and some showing June dates. May we humbly suggest that May 1st or May 25th make FAR more sense?

Finally, here’s awesome news: Warner Archive has set Alfred Hitchcock’s The Wrong Man for Blu-ray release on 1/26. You can see the cover art and pre-order link below.

And in BD-related news from around the Net today, my old friends Ed Peters and Guido Henkel have posted a pretty good wish list for catalog titles they’d like to see finally arrive on Blu-ray in 2016 over at DVD Review. Do give it a look, I think you’ll enjoy it.

Here’s a look at some new Blu-ray cover artwork for some of the titles listed above (with Amazon pre-order links if available)...

Star Wars: The Force Awakens (Blu-Ray Disc)    Burnt (Blu-ray Disc)    The Wrong Man (Blu-ray Disc)

Black Sleep (Blu-ray Disc)    Labyrinth of Lies (Blu-ray Disc)    From Dusk Till Dawn: The Series - Seasons 1 & 2 (Blu-ray Disc)

Now then, this will likely be the last post until Monday so we can all go and celebrate the Christmas holiday, though we may pop in with a new BD review or two sooner. So with that, let me just wish you all a very Merry Christmas! Safe travels to wherever you may be headed over this holiday, and our very best to you and your families. Peace out!

Stay tuned...
