Now then... we’ve got a bunch of new announcement news to catch up on here at The Bits today...
The big news is that 20th Century Studios (via Disney) has just set Ridley Scott’s The Last Duel for release on Blu-ray, DVD, and 4K Ultra HD on 12/14, with the Digital release set for 11/30. The 4K release will feature Dolby Atmos audio, while the Blu-ray will feature DTS-HD Master Audio. The 4K will also include HDR10 high dynamic range. The only extra listed is The Making of The Last Duel documentary. You can see the cover artwork above left and also below.
By the way, we’ve confirmed with Disney that the street date for Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl in 4K is indeed 1/2/22, which is a Sunday. I guess the pirates are going rogue these days!
Meanwhile, Warner Bros. Home Entertainment has set Alan Taylor’s feature film prequel to HBO’s The Sopranos TV series, The Many Saints of Newark, for release on Blu-ray, DVD, and 4K Ultra HD on 12/21, with the Digital release expected on 11/19. Both the Blu-ray and 4K Ultra HD will include Dolby Atmos audio, with HDR10 on the 4K. Extras on both will include 2 featurettes (The Making of Newark and Sopranos Family Honor) along with deleted scenes.
Warner and DC have set the DC Animated Movie Catwoman: Hunted for release on Blu-ray, DVD, and 4K Ultra HD on 2/8/22.
This isn’t officially announced yet, but industry sources are telling us that Warner will release Reinaldo Marcus Green’s recent King Richard on Blu-ray, DVD, and 4K Ultra HD on 2/8. The film stars Will Smith.
This is also not official, but our sources are reporting that Frank Darabont’s The Green Mile (1999) is coming to 4K Ultra HD from Warner early next year. The expected street date is 2/22/22.
We’ve got a little more for you on Warner’s expected catalog 4K in a minute...
Moving on... Kino Lorber Studio Classics revealed over the weekend that they’re preparing a 4K Ultra HD of Billy Wilder’s classic The Apartment (1960) for release sometime next year (it’s currently set as “coming soon”). The film stars Jack Lemmon, Shirley MacLaine, and Fred MacMurray.
By the way, KLSC also has Brian De Palma’s Dressed to Kill (1980) and Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy (2011) listed as coming soon to 4K Ultra HD. For fans of the latter film, you’ll be able to get it a little earlier in the UK from StudioCanal—it’s currently set to street there on 12/6.
Switching to Universal for a moment, retail sources tell us that Dear Evan Hansen is expected to street on Blu-ray, DVD, and 4K Ultra HD on 12/7.
The final Daniel Craig James Bond film, No Time to Die, is expected to follow on Blu-ray, DVD, and 4K UHD on 12/21. There are expected to be 4K and Blu-ray gift set options. Note that the film will be available for Digital rentals starting tomorrow.
Universal’s Halloween Kills and Last Night in Soho are expected to street on Blu-ray, DVD, and 4K UHD on 1/11/22 and 1/25/22 respectively.
Universal has also set Two Yellow Lines are release on Digital (including 4K) on 11/9.
And I promised you a little a little more Warner Bros. catalog 4K news, didn’t I? Well, our industry sources are now telling us to expect Joel Schumacher’s The Lost Boys to arrive in 4K Ultra HD from the studio next year, along with Gene Kelly and Stanley Donen’s Singin’ in the Rain. The former celebrates its 35th anniversary in 2022, while the latter celebrates its 70th. It should be noted that Tobe Hooper’s Poltergeist and Michael Curtiz’s Casablanca also celebrate major anniversaries next year (the 40th and 80th, respectively), so consider those possible for release in 4K nextyear as well. (But note that I don’t have any kind of confirmation on those as yet.) Our 4K Ultra HD Release List here at The Bits has been updated accordingly.
Also today, RLJE Films has confirmed the Blu-ray and DVD release of Creepshow: Season 2 on 12/7.
Scream Factory has confirmed their Krampus: The Naughty Cut 4K Ultra HD release for 12/7 as well. You’ll get The Naughty Cut on both 4K and Blu-ray, each with a new Dolby Atmos track and the existing audio commentary with director/co-writer Michael Dougherty and co-writers Todd Casey and Zach Shields. The Blu-ray will also include 9 new interview featurettes (including A Dash of Mischief with director/co-writer Michael Dougherty, Storm of the Centuries with producer Todd Casey, The Great Protector with actor David Koechner, Something Bad Happened on Christmas with actress Allison Tolman, Max’s Journey with actor Emjay Anthony, Lord of the Things with WETA’s Richard Taylor, Mapping Mythology with storyboard artist Simeon Wilkins, I, Krampus with performer Luke Hawker, and A Winter Chorus with composer Douglas Pipes), along with legacy extras.
Finally, Lionsgate will release American Night and Apache Junction on Blu-ray and DVD on 11/23.
