Warner v. Amazon goes viral, new Alamo story, 24: Live Another Day, Twilight Zone 80s, Twilight Time art & more

by

We’ve got some interesting odds and ends to talk about today… nothing major, but a few things worth touching out.

First, remember that story we posted last week about the contract kerfuffle between Amazon and Warner Home Video? Turns out it got picked up by The New York Times yesterday and both the Wall Street Journal and CNN Money today (among others – the story has basically gone everywhere today, but our thanks to NYT, WSJ and CNN Money for mentioning our involvement in breaking it). I should tip the hat to our very own Jeff Kleist who first sniffed out that something might be going on there a couple of weeks ago, thus setting me on the case with our industry sources. It’s funny how these things go viral. I didn’t think it was that big a story, but it turns out that Amazon is also in similar disputes with various book publishing companies too, including Hachette, so the sum of this story became bigger than its parts. In other news from around the Net today, Time Warner Cable News – Austin picked up our story about John Wayne’s The Alamo (1960) badly needing the restoration MGM seems unwilling to give it. There’s more to come on this topic, you can be sure.

Meanwhile, in announcement news this afternoon, CBS has set Walker, Texas Ranger: One Riot One Ranger for DVD release on 7/8 (SRP $14.99).

Paramount has announced Turtle Power: The Definitive History of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles for DVD and digital release on 8/12.

Well Go USA Entertainment will release The Suspect on Blu-ray and DVD on 7/22.

Cinedigm is releasing Debbie Macomber’s Cedar Cove: Season One on DVD on 7/15.

Image Entertainment has set Twilight Zone 80s: The Complete Series for DVD only release on 8/26 (SRP $59.98). All three seasons (65 episodes) will be included. Extras will include a photo gallery, a Wes Craven video interview and numerous audio commentaries.

RLJ Entertainment has set Hunting the Legend: The Search Continues for Sasquatch for DVD and digital release on 7/8.

And the documentary Adjust Your Tracking: The Untold Story of the VHS Collector will be released on DVD only on 6/17.

Back to the subject of Amazon for a moment, the company is currently taking pre-orders on at least somebody’s Blu-rays: Fox’s 24: Live Another Day is up for pre-order (street date TBA – SRP $59.99, but Amazon has it for 30% off). Click on the links below to get your orders in.

By the way, last week we mentioned that Disney and ABC are getting ready to release Once Upon a Time: The Complete Third Season. Our original information was that it would be DVD only, but it turns out a Blu-ray version will be available and it too is already up for pre-order on Amazon. (See art below)

Scream Factory’s Pumpkinhead: Collector’s Edition is now available for pre-order too, with a street date of 9/9. Here’s all that artwork…

24: Live Another Day (Blu-ray Disc)    Once Upon a Times: The Complete Third Season (Blu-ray Disc)    Pumpkinhead: Collector's Edition (Blu-ray Disc)

Meanwhile, here’s a look at the Blu-ray art for a trio of the new Twilight titles we mentioned yesterday. You’ll find them up for pre-order at Screen Archives Entertainment next week. [Editor’s Note: The pre-order date and time for these titles is Wednesday, 6/18 at 1 PM Pacific. Not today, as I mistakenly reported in a couple days ago. So adjust your plans accordingly.] Among them is a new title, Save Your Legs!, which is set to street on 7/5…

Radio Days (Blu-ray Disc)    Brannigan (Blu-ray Disc)    Save Your Legs! (Blu-ray Disc)

Back tomorrow. Stay tuned…
