Paramount sets 13 Hours for BD on 6/7, also Race, Iron Giant, new Kino animated & Sony’s Ultra 4K service

In release news today, Paramount has officially set Michael Bay’s 13 Hours: The Secret Soldiers of Benghazi for digital release on 5/24, followed by Blu-ray and DVD on 6/7. The Blu-ray will be a 3-disc set that includes the film itself on Disc One and a trio of documentary featurettes on Disc Two (including For the Record: Finding the Truth Amid the Noise, Uncovering Benghazi’s Secret Soldiers, and Preparing for Battle: Behind the Scenes of 13 Hours). Just so you all know, Warner Bros has just sent out the press release for The Iron Giant: Signature Edition Blu-ray release, so it’s now finally official. There’s nothing new in the release that we didn’t already post yesterday, but we do have the final cover artwork for the regular Signature Edition (in addition to the UCE which we posted yesterday) – you’ll find that below, with the Amazon pre-order link.

Meanwhile, Universal has set Stephen Hopkins’ Race for Blu-ray and DVD release on 5/31.

Amazon pre-orders are now open for Universal’s London Has Fallen on Blu-ray, as well as Paramount’s Whisky Tango Foxtrot and 10 Cloverfield Lane, Disney’s Zootopia, and Sony’s Risen and The Brothers Grimsby. Street dates for all are TBA. Click on the title links to find the respective Blu-ray pre-order pages on Amazon.com.

Lionsgate is re-issuing Apocalypse Now on Blu-ray on 6/7 as a Triple Feature (SRP $19.99), including Apocalypse Now, Apocalypse Now: Redux, and the Hearts of Darkness documentary. Lionsgate has also set Touched with Fire for Blu-ray and DVD release on 6/7. The latter will include 2 featurettes (The Making of Touched with Fire and A Conversation with Paul Dalio and Dr. Kay Jamison), audio commentary with writer/director Paul Dalio and producer/director of photography Kristina Nikolova, a deleted scene, and a photo gallery.

Speaking of Lionsgate, the studio has just announced the 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray release of Now You See Me on 5/31.

Paramount and Nickelodeon have set Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Beyond the Known Universe for DVD only release on 5/24.

Kino Lorber has revealed The Pit (1981) as “coming soon” to Blu-ray. (Street date TBA.)

As you may know, Kino has set the animated DePatie/Freleng animated titles Crazy Legs Crane, The Inspector, and The Ant and the Aardvark for Blu-ray release on 4/26. Well, now they’ve also set animated Roland and Rattfink and Tijuana Toads for Blu-ray and DVD release on 6/28. See the cover artwork below.

PBS has set Inspector Lewis: Season 8 and Endeavour: The Complete Third Season for Blu-ray and DVD release on 8/23. They also have Tunnel: Season One coming on both formats on 8/9. And Grantchester: The Complete Second Season is due on both formats on 6/14.

Note that PBS has also set Ken Burns’ Jackie Robinson for Blu-ray and DVD release on 4/12.

Anchor Bay has announced The Spoils Before Dying for DVD only release on 6/7, starring Michael Kenneth Williams, Maya Rudolph and Kristen Wiig. The company also has Love Finds You in Valentine coming on DVD only that same day.

Film Rise has set Perfect Obedience for Blu-ray and DVD release on 4/19.

MPI is releasing Love Is a Verb on Blu-ray and DVD on 4/19.

And here’s something for you music fans: Arthaus Musik is releasing a 3-disc Sir Simon Rattle Conducts & Explores Music of the 20th Century Blu-ray box set on 4/29 (SRP $89.99).

In other news today, Sony Pictures has just announced that it’s launching a new 4K streaming service (for its Sony 4K Ultra HD displays with Android TV) in the US market on 4/4. Called Ultra, the service will “offer a variety of movies for purchase and playback in 4K Ultra HD, with many including High Dynamic Range (HDR) and Digital Extras at no additional charge, taking full advantage of the latest television display technologies and interactive capabilities.” The films will include new releases “like Concussion, The Night Before and The Walk, and library titles such as Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon and Ghostbusters” priced at $30 each. Ultra will also be “UltraViolet compatible, allowing customers to upgrade Sony Pictures titles in their existing library to 4K UHD.” Note that there will be a special 4-movie bundle offer for those who purchase Sony 4K displays this summer (and who then register with Ultra). You can read more here Home Media.
