We’ve got more announcement news for you today. Not a whole lot, but a few things. And in particular, something interesting for you Stanley Kubrick fans. All as our very own Dr. Jahnke is knee-deep in working on his epic-lenth review of CBS’s Twin Peaks new Blu-ray set (watch for that very soon).

So let’s start with that, shall we? Warner Home Video has just solicited on Amazon.com a new Stanley Kubrick: The Masterpiece Collection Blu-ray box set as an Amazon.com exclusive release. Due on 11/14 (SRP $199.99 but Amazon has it for $139.99), the 10-disc box set will come in the studio’s usual Ultimate Collector’s Edition style packaging with 8 films – Lolita, Dr. Strangelove, 2001: A Space Odyssey, A Clockwork Orange, Barry Lyndon, The Shining, Full Metal Jacket, and Eyes Wide Shut. Disc 9 will include the Stanley Kubrick: A Life in Pictures and O’ Lucky Malcolm documentaries, while Disc 10 will include the all-new Kubrick Remembered documentary, the new-to-Blu-ray Stanley Kubrick in Focus documentary and the new-to-the U.S. Once Upon a Time… A Clockwork Orange documentary. The set will also include a 78-page hardcover photo book. Here’s what the open contents looks like. [Read on here…]

Stanley Kubrick: The Masterpiece Collection (Blu-ray Disc)

Click on the image to pre-order it on Amazon.com. It’s a nice set to be sure, but I wish Warner had continued doing their nice Anniversary Edition releases of the individual films. We also wish they would get around to funding Douglas Trumbull’s proposed Beyond the Infinite documentary on 2001. Maybe that’s a worthy Kickstarter project. We’d sure as hell support it.

In other news today, there’s still little word on potential U.S. release dates for additional Studio Ghibli animated Blu-rays from Disney, including Hayao Miyazaki’s final film, The Wind Rises. However, Discotek Media apparently plans to release Lupin III: The Castle of Cagliostro on Blu-ray and DVD here in the States before the end of the year (or early 2015). So that’s something. Meanwhile, virtually all of the Ghibli titles can be purchased on Blu-ray in all-region versions, but they’ll run you a good $80 each to import them from Japan. E-mail us if you’d like to additional details.

Meanwhile, Universal has set It’s a Very Merry Muppet Christmas for Blu-ray Disc release on 10/7. Also coming that day from Universal is a BD reissue of Holiday Inn.

20th Century Fox Home Entertainment has announced The Fault in Our Stars: Little Infinities – Extended Edition for release on Blu-ray Combo and DVD on 9/16 (SRP $49.99 and $29.99). The Blu-ray includes both the theatrical and extended versions of the film, along with 6 featurettes, deleted scenes and more.

Focus Films has set Juan of the Dead for Blu-ray release on 9/16 (SRP $14.98).

Dark Sky Films has announced The Texas Chainsaw Massacre: 40th Anniversary Collector’s Edition for release on 4-disc Blu-ray and DVD on 9/16 as well.

And Comedy Central and Paramount are releasing South Park: The Complete Seventeenth Season on Blu-ray and DVD on 9/16. Extras will include the usual mini-commentaries by Trey Parker and Matt Stone, along with deleted scenes.

Also today, in news from elsewhere around the Net, the new Comic-Con trailer for Christopher Nolan’s Interstellar has just been released online and, I’ll tell you… I’m hooked. This is officially the movie I’m most looking forward to right now. You can view the trailer by visiting the official website and entering the code 7201969, the significance of which should be obvious to spaceflight enthusiasts. Run, don’t walk, to see it. Fingers crossed this film delivers because if it does it could be one of the best pure hard sci-fi films since Blade Runner, 2001, and The Matrix.

All right, we’ll leave you today with a look at the Blu-ray cover artwork for Universal’s final Chef art (due 9/30), Fox’s The Fault in Our Stars, Comedy Central’s South Park: Season 17, Focus Films’ Juan of the Dead, Dark Sky’s Texas Chainsaw Massacre: 40th, and FilmRise’s Years of Living Dangerously series on DVD only (due 9/7, Blu-ray TBA), plus Warner’s closed Kubrick packaging again…

Chef (Blu-ray Disc)    The Fault in Our Stars (Blu-ray Disc)    South Park: Season 17 (Blu-ray Disc)

Juan of the Dead (Blu-ray Disc)    The Texas Chainsaw Massacre: 40th Anniversary Edition (Blu-ray Disc)    Years of Living Dangerously (DVD)

Stanley Kubrick: The Masterpiece Collection (Blu-ray Disc)

All right, that’s all for now. Back tomorrow. Stay tuned…
