I’ve spent (and continue to spend) most of the afternoon today chasing down interesting leads regarding upcoming Blu-ray and 4K Ultra HD releases. As a result, we’ve got a couple of good items for you today...

First though, we’ve got another new BD review from Tim, who checks in with his thoughts on Fred Wolf’s animated The Point (1971), now on Blu-ray from the MVD Rewind Collection. Be sure to give it a look.

Also today, we’ve updated our 4K Ultra HD Release List (with some new UHD titles I’m about to mention) and also our Release Dates & Artwork section with all of the latest Blu-ray, DVD, and 4K cover art and Amazon.com pre-order links. By the way, if you find that the section is missing some titles, it’s due to issues on Amazon’s side, not our end. They’re just making it very difficult for some titles to be found in their database for whatever reason. But we do appreciate your support when you order titles from them though our links—it matters, and we’re grateful for it. [Read on here...]

Now then, I’ve confirmed today directly with Universal that their forthcoming 4K Ultra HD release of John Landis’ The Blues Brothers will contain both cuts of the film in 4K on the actual UHD disc with audio in DTS:X and HDR10 high dynamic range. Extras too will be included on the 4K disc. The title streets on 5/19, and you can pre-order it by clicking on the cover artwork below.

Speaking of The Blues Brothers, Bits reader Cade U. asked me earlier today for links to the “lost” audio tracks from the film that we posted here at The Bits many years ago—a trio of songs that were recorded for the film but eventually cut, including Murph and the Magic Tones’ versions of Just the Way You Are and Quando Quando Quando, as well as The Blues Brothers performing Sink the Bismarck at Bob’s Country Bunker. While the audio recordings still exist, the film footage has been lost. But I figured that if Cade was looking for them, there might be lots more of you who missed out when we first posted the MP3 files years ago. So I sent them to Cade, and he’s kindly uploaded them to the Internet Archive for posterity. And now you can find all three of them here (Enjoy—and thanks again Cade!):

Also, while we’re talking Universal, a number of retail sources have now informed us that the studio will finally be releasing Bong Joon-ho’s Parasite on 4K Ultra HD on 6/2—a move that’s not totally unexpected. We’ve asked the studio for official confirmation, but I’m pretty confident that the information is accurate. We’ll let you know for sure here on The Bits as soon as we hear back.

Now then, in terms of new announcements, the big news today is that Sony Pictures Home Entertainment has finally set Martin Campbell’s The Mask of Zorro (1998) for release on 4K Ultra HD on 5/5. We’ve had this title in our 4K Release List here at The Bits for a good six months or more, so it’s nice to finally see it announced. The 4K disc will include never-before-seen deleted scenes and theatrical trailers. Audio will be available in Dolby Atmos, along with the original 5.1 theatrical audio. Look for HDR10 high dynamic range. That’s the cover artwork above left there. By the way, the sequel film, The Legend of Zorro (2005) will also be available in 4K on 5/5, but only digitally for now.

And finally today, Kino Lorber Studio Classics is releasing the 6-volume Pink Panther Cartoon Collection on Blu-ray on 5/19.

All right, we’ll leave you with a look at the cover artwork for that, along with all of the newly-announced Paramount Presents Blu-ray titles and a few others. Click on the images to pre-order them on Amazon.com...
