All right, I’ve finally had a week or so to process my experience of Ultra HD Blu-ray at CES 2016, so I wanted to offer a few thoughts and insights on it all – perspective filtered through my 20 years of experience working in and around this industry here at The Bits.  [Read on here…]

We’ve got a couple interesting things for you this afternoon.

First, Tim has posted a review of Scream Factory’s Nightmares on Blu-ray, a 1983 anthology film directed by Joseph Sergeant. Do give it a look.

Also today, our own Russell Hammond has posted the Release Dates & Artwork update with all the latest Blu-ray and DVD cover artwork, as well as Amazon.com pre-order links. As always, a portion of anything you order from Amazon after clicking to them through our links goes to help support our work here at The Bits and we really do appreciate it.  [Read on here…]

We’re starting things today with a new Pick-Ups column from our own Tim Salmons, featuring a review of Scream Factory’s The Car on Blu-ray Disc. Tim will be posting new “catch-up” Scream and Shout BD reviews (and more) all week, so do check them out.

First up today, people who have pre-ordered Samsung’s first 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray player (the UBDK8500) on Amazon and Best Buy are reporting that they’re getting notices that the player will ship on 2/12 or 2/21, as opposed to 3/1. So it’s possible that discs may ship earlier as well. We’ll let you know as we hear updates. [Read on here…]

Pick-Ups for the Week of January 11, 2016

Welcome back to a new edition of Pick-Ups!

Ok, I’m back finally after a holiday break. I hope you enjoyed yourself as safely as possible and got lots of goodies to sort through (I know I did).

I also hope you managed to go out and see a few movies. How about that Force Awakens, huh? Oh, and The Hateful Eight in 70mm? Wow, what a great year for going to the cinema.  [Read on here…]

We’ve got the first of a couple days worth of title announcement updates for you. First however, it’s worth noting that the Oscar nominations were made this morning, for those of you who might be interested. You’ll find those here.

Now then... Sony Pictures Home Entertainment has set Home Invasion for DVD and digital release on 2/2. Sony has also set The Night Before for Blu-ray and DVD release on 3/1. The Blu-ray will include Making One Epic Party: 20 Minutes of On-Set Shenanigans, a gag reel, deleted & extended scenes, 5 featurettes (Christmas in the Summer, The Spirit of Christmas, Drunkest Santas on the Block, Whale Juice: Extended Strip Club Scene, and Midnight Mass with Nana), and Mr. Green Line-O Rama[Read on here…]

Today’s post here on The Bits is all about Blu-ray reviews…

First up, I’ve finally posted my in-depth thoughts on Fox’s The X-Files: The Complete Seasons 1-9 Blu-ray box set. And by in-depth, I mean in-depth – it’s a 3-pager with everything you’d want to know about the set, its quality and extras, and word of a Fox exchange program for one of the individual season sets. Do give it a read. If you love the series and are interested in the BDs, the better course is to buy the seasons individually and you’ll save money – I’ve included purchase links to all of them (plus the movies) within the review text. Enjoy!  [Read on here…]

While I’m gathering my final thoughts on my experience of Ultra HD Blu-ray at CES 2016 last week (to wrap up our coverage of the convention), I wanted to jump in quickly today to take care of a couple important pieces of business here at The Bits.

First, our own Tim Salmons has turned in his thoughts on Arrow Video’s new Blood Rage: Special Edition Blu-ray.

I’ve also just posted my in-depth review of Ridley Scott’s The Martian, which streets tomorrow on Blu-ray 3D, Blu-ray, and DVD. The film just took home the Golden Globe for Best Comedy or Musical Film of all things. Don’t miss it.  [Read on here…]
