We’ve got a pair of additional Blu-ray reviews for you today...

First of all, Tim has checked out a 1968 film from Sydney Pollack in Kino’s The Scalphunters. I’ve also updated and ported over (from the original Bits site) my own review of review of Fritz Lang’s science fiction classic Metropolis (1927) as released, restored and at long last complete, on Blu-ray by Kino in 2010. Don’t miss them. And note that I’ll be back with another new Blu-ray review tomorrow.  [Read on here…]

Our own Tim Salmons kicks things off here at The Bits today by sharing his thoughts on a new classic Blu-ray release from Kino Lorber – Richard Brooks’ Elmer Gantry (1960).

Also today, Michael Coate celebrates the 35th anniversary of Robert Wise’s Star Trek: The Motion Picture in his History, Legacy & Showmanship column with an interview with film historian Preston Neal Jones, author of the new book Return to Tomorrow: The Filming of Star Trek: The Motion Picture – An Oral History of the Legendary Production Documented as It Happened. You’ll enjoy both the interview and the book, so be sure to give the column a look.  [Read on here…]

“The Human Adventure Is Just Beginning.”

The Digital Bits is pleased to present this retrospective commemorating the 35th anniversary of the release of Star Trek: The Motion Picture, the first big-screen adventure of the crew of the USS Enterprise.

The Bits celebrates the occasion with a Q&A with film historian and author Preston Neal Jones, who was given unprecedented access to Star Trek: The Motion Picture during its production, interviewing numerous cast and crew members in the process of creating an oral history of one of the most popular and significant science fiction films ever made.  [Read more here...]

We’re kicking things off here today at The Bits with a trio of Blu-ray reviews. First up is Tim’s take on Kino’s new BD release of John Huston’s western The Unforgiven from 1960. Also, I’ve posted a pair of Blu-ray reviews from the original Bits website, featuring my take on MGM’s Rocky: The Undisputed Collection from 2009, which contains Rocky I-V and Rocky Balboa, and Fox’s landmark Alien Anthology Blu-ray set from 2010, featuring multiple remastered versions of Alien, Aliens, Alien 3 and Alien Resurrection, plus a truly massive amount of special edition extras – truly one of the best film franchise box sets ever released on Blu-ray.  [Read on here…]

Doogan’s Queue for December 2, 2014

I’m still full from Thanksgiving, boy howdy. My Mom cooks up a mean Turkey.

Welcome to the last month of 2014. Christmas is coming fast, and with it a new year. Jeez, this year swam on by. I guess the older you get, the quicker time progresses. I remember being a kid and feeling like it took forever to get through a year. Now, it seems like yesterday I was at Comic-Con. Oh well. Enough about that – let’s look at another light week. But one filled with one major, huge thing that I want – for no good reason.  [Read on here…]
