We’re kicking off today’s update here at The Bits with a trio of new disc reviews...

First up, I spent the whole day yesterday going through Sony’s new 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray edition of Ang Lee’s Billy Lynn’s Long Halftime Walk. The package includes 4K, Blu-ray 3D, Blu-ray, and Digital HD. Whatever you may think of the film itself, this A/V presentation is a must have for 4K enthusiasts. Full native 4K in 60 frames per second with High Dynamic Range and Dolby Atmos audio is a helluva thing.

Also, Tim has checked out a pair of regular Blu-rays for you, including Sony’s Don’t Breathe and Kino Lorber Studio Classics’ Haunted Honeymoon. Both are worth your time. [Read on here…]

In announcement news today, Anchor Bay Entertainment and The Weinstein Company have announced the Blu-ray and DVD release of Garth Davis’ Best Picture-nominated film Lion on 3/21, with the Digital HD release expected on 3/7. Extras will include deleted scenes, a behind-the-scenes gallery, and Sia’s Never Give Up music video.

Shout! Factory has moved the street date for The Pink Panther Film Collection to 6/27 (from 4/11), but for good reasons: The company has revealed that they have the opportunity to interview more talent from the films for the set’s special features. So adjust your plans according.

On the DVD-only front, Shout Factory has just announced the release of Mystery Science Theater 3000: Volume XXXVIII on 3/28. The set will include the episodes Invasion USA, Colossus and The Headhunters, High School Big Shot, and Track of The Moon Beast, all previously unreleased. The extras will include the Zugsmith Confidential featurette, the original High School Big Shot feature film, the Mike, By Joel interview, the Tracking a Moon Beast with Actress Leigh Drake featurette, and theatrical trailers. “In addition, the first 1,500 fans who order directly from ShoutFactory.com will receive an exclusive bonus disc, MST3K: Play MSTie For Me Triple Decker, which gathers 39 of the finest MST3K musical moments into one eminently singable package.”

Shout has also announced a new Shout Select title coming on 5/9: A Fantastic Fear of Everything, starring Simon Pegg. SRP is $29.99. Additional Shout Select titles due on 5/16 include a Return of the Dragon: Collector’ Edition and Game of Death: Collector’s Edition! Both feature “new 4K scans, restored from the original negative, and Game of Death is a 2-disc set.” Meanwhile, their Streets of Fire: Collector’s Edition is due on 5/2, with “a brand new 2K scan of the interpositive and an entire second disc of bonus features.”

And Scream Factory has just announced that they’re working on a new Collector’s Edition of the original Species (1995) for release on Blu-ray and DVD this summer.

Meanwhile, Paramount has set Office Christmas Party for Blu-ray and DVD release on 4/4.

20th Century Fox Home Entertainment has set Why Him? for Blu-ray, DVD, and 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray release on 3/28. Also, Fox’s Assassin’s Creed now seems to have a street date – look for it on all three formats on 3/21.

Kino Lorber has set Elijah Drenner’s The Mephisto Waltz (1971) for Blu-ray release on 4/18, along with Nicholas Hytner’s The Crucible (1996).

Wolfe Video has set Paris 05:59 Théo & Hugo for Blu-ray and DVD release on 4/18.

And remember those Universal BD titles we mentioned were Walmart exclusives for the moment? Well, The Hindenburg and Brewster’s Millions are now officially set for wide release on 5/2 for just $14.98 each. You can pre-order them below on Amazon.com.

We’ll leave you with a look at the Blu-ray cover artwork for some of the titles listed above (click to pre-order each on Amazon.com if available)…
