MGM 90th, new Fox Cinema Classics, The Women, Scream’s Beneath & Sleepaway Camp & more

Tim has checked in this afternoon with a brand new Blu-ray review: Jean-Pierre Melville’s Two Men in Manhattan, now available from the Cohen Film Collection. More reviews are on the way, so be sure to check back over the next few days.

In announcement news today, MGM has announced that it’s celebrating its 90th anniversary with new 4K restorations of some of its best films, including Rocky, Rain Man, Fargo, RoboCop and The Good, The Bad and The Ugly and is releasing them on Blu-ray. RoboCop is already available and most of the others are already available for pre-order on Amazon.com. Meanwhile, they’re releasing other titles on Blu-ray like In the Heat of the Night, A Chrous Line, The Birdcage and others. [Read on here…]

Meanwhile, 20th Century Fox Home Entertainment is adding 14 more classic to their Fox Cinema Archives MOD DVD-R line-up. In Love and War (1958), Island in the Sky (1938), and The Glory Brigade (1953) are available now. Danger: Love at Work (1937), Home in Indiana (1944), and City of Bad Men (1953) arrive on 1/28. Pride of St. Louis (1952) and Follow the Sun (1951) follow on 2/4. Five Fingers (1952) and The Great Profile (1940) are due on 2/11. Margin for Error (1943) and Mother Wore Tights (1947) are expected on 2/18. And Wild on the Beach (1965) and Sing, Baby, Sing (1936) round things out on 2/25.

Also today, Warner Home Video has just set The Women (1939) for Blu-ray release on 5/6 (SRP $19.98) in honor of the film’s 75th anniversary. Extras will include 2 documentaries (From the Ends of the Earth and Hollywood: Style Center of the World), an alternate B&W “fashion show” sequence with different footage, music cues from the scoring session, and theatrical trailers for this film and the 1956 musical remake The Opposite of Sex.

Scream Factory has officially set Beneath for Blu-ray and DVD release on 3/25 (SRP $19.97 and $14.93). Extras will include audio commentary with director Larry Fessenden and sound designer Graham Reznick, the theatrical trailer, outtakes, 2 featurettes (Behind Beneath and Fessenden on Jaws), 2 webisodes (What the Zeke? and What’s in Black Lake), and a gallery of poster art/premiere photos.

Scream Factory has also revealed that they’ll release a Sleepaway Camp: Collector’s Edition on Blu-ray and DVD combo on 5/27.

Universal has announced the Blu-ray and DVD release of the direct-to-video sequel The Little Rascals Save the Day on 4/1.

Shout! Factory has set Newhart: The Complete Second Season for DVD release on 2/11.

IFC Films will release Haunter on Blu-ray and DVD on 2/11.

Anchor Bay Films has set Death Do Us Part for DVD only release on 4/15.

Vertical Entertainment has set 20 Ft. Below: The Darkness Descending for DVD release on 3/18.

Nickelodeon Home Entertainment and Paramount have set Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutagen Mayhem for DVD only release on 3/11.

And Lionsgate has set the comedy Hellbenders for Blu-ray 3D Combo and DVD release on 2/18.
